Stef 16 May 2001, 00:17 Ride quality hardly affected on CK1, and I've been running them on std shocks for 60,000 miles now. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif Stef. Jake 16 May 2001, 09:31 Could some one runnning Eibach lowering springs tell me how they effect the ride quality on standard UK shocks? Jake davrhod 16 May 2001, 09:58 Jake, very little difference in ride quality, great improvement in handling. Well worth it. Cheers, Dave. dowser 16 May 2001, 10:00 On my99/00 it will improve ride quality and handling http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif Can't comment on other my's. Richard ScottishMenace 16 May 2001, 16:56 Another one of these " must have " mods - It made a big difference to my 2000 model. Had them fitted with standard shocks for only 2 weeks now and still grinning. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif Jake 16 May 2001, 17:31 Got my car booked into powerstation for the above plus the Bumpsteer mod and anti lift kit cant wait!!!! Trouser 16 May 2001, 23:43 Jake...and anyone else wanting cheap, but great handling. 1. eibachs..... how do they wind them so well? 2. Some kind of strut brace 3. laser geometry alignment with a little work the above costs @ 500-700 depending on the brace used. you will not believe how well those standard dampers work. Eibach warranty for 1,000,000 kilometres. The poor scooby will be dead then anyway http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif Paul, TSL Steve Sherwen 17 May 2001, 14:20 How much do they lower the car? Are they available for MY01? Steve Trouser 17 May 2001, 15:28 About 20-25mm mate, The cars sits soooo nicely, just low enough but not silly. We will have the 01 units in 3-4 months.. that will lower by a bit more i reckon they're on stilts arent they? http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif Hopefully they will be doing the matched damper kits like we can get for Saab. Then we can all have cheap handling! One of the best smiles per pound you can achieve, plus less tyre wear and reduced stopping distances. Don't forget Eibach wind some springs for Prodrive... enough said! Cheers Paul, TSL http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/tongue.gif Steve Sherwen 17 May 2001, 16:07 Cheers. Will they need new dampers? I'd be planning on putting them on a nearly brand new car so the dampers should be sound. Steve Stef 17 May 2001, 22:52 Paul. HOW MUCH??????? http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif Eibach kit fitted £200 Strut Brace £ 60 Laser Alignment £ 80 TOTAL £340 Are TSL really that expensive??? http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif Stef. daw 17 May 2001, 23:03 Steve, I have H&R springs and they work extremely well with the standard dampers. I actually think they are a better match the H&Rs than the standard springs. H&R design these springs to work with the standard Subaru dampers. The car is 25-30mm lower than standard, the ride is much smoother and the there's no comparison as far as cornering goes. David Trouser 18 May 2001, 09:31 Standard dampers will work just fine, especially if they are new, Stef, see what you mean, we would charge Eibachs £149.00 Fitting £ 65.00 Strut Brace £295.00 (very sexy TSL version) Geometry £ 60 (eight camera laser alignment) So £569..plus vat with a posh brace or £200 less without. Those OMP, Sparco ones work well, But any mountain biker will tell you, Alloy is a lot, lot stiffer than steel. ( and prettier too!!) However, any SB is better than none aint it? Cheers Trouser Deep Singh 19 May 2001, 14:58 Has anybody used the Eibach springs on a STi with good results as I have also been thinking of this mod. Cheers. Stef 20 May 2001, 22:38 Trouser. I know alloy is a lot stiffer than steel, which is why I have an alloy Sparco strut brace on CK1 which still only cost £60!! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/tongue.gif And as for a strut-brace being sexy.....ermmmmm, well, whatever turns you onm I suppose. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif Stef. AlexM 21 May 2001, 00:11 Hi, Alloy is stiffer than steel for a given weight, which isn't the same as saying that an alloy strut brace will be stiffer than a steel one - it will just be lighter and usually more expensive. Cheers, Alex RaymondH 21 May 2001, 00:42 Jake, Eibachs will not lower your car by much at all. Having said that they are excellent. For the full story see here Neil F 21 May 2001, 18:11 Deep. I think I was the first person on this BBS to fit Eibachs (on my STi4) and they have been superb. The car originally came with very stiff springs (like a 22B according to Pete Croney)but the Eibachs give a firm, compliant ride instead of jarring. They actually work particularly well with the uprated shocks you get on STi's (unbadged Bilstein units) though despite reports that UK spec struts are a little underdamped, most people seem happy with them. I was barrelling around the countryside with some friends at the weekend and we swapped each others cars to "enhance" the experience (TVR Chimera and the new Tuscan) and depite the awsome potential of all present, the Scooby was the most composed of all through both the twisty and long sweeping stuff. (made me fall in love with the car all over again!) Eibachs are also easy to fit (I have a fitting guide that I wrote for a few people if you want it) so just go for it! Neil. Deep Singh 21 May 2001, 20:19 Thanks for that Neil.I'm a little suprised though as I have a STi4 and have never really thought of the ride as jarring.Mine's a Type R but that should'nt make a differece should it? I think I will go for it though!! Neil F 22 May 2001, 09:21 Deep. What I meant was that my car was imported with non STi lowering springs. Very stiff springs indeed. Neil. dowser 23 May 2001, 00:41 Brendan - Yes BHORT 23 May 2001, 10:27 Is the spring change equally effective with 16 inch wheels as 17s? Brendan Jza 23 May 2001, 15:42 Question: If my springs go on my car, and i replace them with (cheaper!!) eibach - is that a mod to the car? Will the insurance bods be able to tell? Ar the springs a loud colour or grey/black like the standard. Just wondering Jza Ian Sutton 24 May 2001, 10:09 I have Eibachs on my STI V5 they lower by only a couple of cm's and are the same colour so for insurance perposses they are undetectable to the original springs. ..IS harj 24 May 2001, 15:45 In case anyone wanted to know, New Age Motorsport are selling Eibach springs at £115 + VAT if anyone is interested, fitting can also be arranged. schuey 24 May 2001, 20:26 Had Eibachs fitted last year, told insurance company, no increase in premium. Jon Tiggs 24 May 2001, 23:01 harj, is it still the case that they are not ready for the MY01 yet? also why do SS suggest that lowering without matching springs to dampers ruins handling- any truth in that?? tiggs [This message has been edited by Tiggs (edited 24 May 2001).] BHORT 25 May 2001, 13:06 Is the part number 7707.140 for an MY99? just to ensure I order the correct item. Brendan PeteT 27 May 2001, 11:11 Trouser said "plus less tyre wear" . Anyone else found this, if so how much less as I might well be interested if i can get more than 8500 miles from a set of tyres!! harj 27 May 2001, 11:40 Tiggs Im sorry to say but lowering a car with just springs only improves it, in no way do Eibach springs themselves ruin the cars handling but vastly improve it! Ride quality of Eibachs is near the std springs as they are progressive, best mod I made to the handling of my last Scoob and im sure that Stef would agree with me! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif Some other makes of springs can alter the handling for the worse, but im certain Eibach do not. Ive asked Eibach about the MY01 Springs and they said "Soon" and couldn't tell me much more. Eibach are also going to offer a full Spring and Damper Kit for all Impreza's along with Anti Roll Bars.
