Right, f*ck it – the pug’s getting a zorst! Got the thing up on a ramp today and the centre section that has been fitted is the wrong one and doesn’t get housed away in the under body as it should. As a result the exhaust hangs about 6 inches lower than it should and given I live in speedbumpville its been getting twated left right and centre for the last few weeks. The poxy clip that holds the two sections together is now bent and buckled and she’s blowing a little at this point.

My options seem to be put back an OE item or just fit something rather nicer. A no brainer then So, who knows of companies that do performance exhaust systems to fit a 3.0V6 406 Pug? I would like something that gives a nice growl and I’d be particularly pleased if it freed up a few extra ponies

And while we are at it, any advice on induction kits and likely effects would be appreciated also

I cant imagine any1 doing performance exhausts for a 406....did you find a supplier?

Does it use the same exhaust as the 406 coupe? Maybe there's more 'performance' parts for the coupe that will bolt on?

I'm not, I just want it to sound a little better and pull a little stronger. The car is currently a bit of a sleeper so with a few extra ponies would be more so! Its enough to scare a uk wrx when rolling as standard so stick that in your pipe and smoke it <puff>

 

Got it booked in to powerflow so any experiences would be welcomed. They quoted £300 from the cat-back and just an extra £50 to decat - how do I know I'll leave with a decat

Aside from obvious MOT problems is there any reason not to decat a 3.0V6? I'm also kind of hoping that I can keep noise levels reasonable despite having a decat because - as much as I like fruity exhausts - the car is just a saloon and doesn't have the looks to back up a really loud exhaust.

Will a full decat increase the power? I'd like to think I'd get 5 or so bhp for that on the basis decat scoobys gain 20 (turbo'd though).

What does a 3.0 V6 with a sports exhaust sound like? I've never heard one I don't think? Anyone got a sound file? (it doesn't have to be the pug 3.0 unit - any will give me a broad idea)

 

Cos they never raced them in the BTCC or anything

Why can't people just answer about the 'zorst without feeling the need to rip into the guy for having a 406 V6? Don't blame him for trying to improve the sound and maybe adding a few BHP...i would do the same.

Some people on all internet forums seem to be always up for a "mine is better than yours"...why?

Found a useful 406 coupe yahoo group and it turns out the cat is riddled with lamda sensors that would go very wrong if I decatted (dang!) so it look like it will be a cat-back jobbie. Just have to ge an induction kit to spend the rest of the wonga

I've been looking at getting a 406 V6 Coupe for the to-and-from work thing, sticking some alloys on, do the exhaust and air filter and leave it at that. There are some real high mileage bargains, but do you know if there's any known problems with high mileage V6 406's ?

No idea about known engine problems. The heated seats are very well known for packing in (mines have!) but other than that I'd hope a 3.0 would be pretty strong. Its power/litre is pretty low for a 3.0V6 so I don't think the engine is having a hard time of it.

Search for 406 coupe yahoo groups and you'll see there is a lot of info and likeminded peeps on there

Mines has a nippy engine fault and flat spot that I'm still trying to iron out - will report when I know

 

My dad has a 406 V6 (S-reg, only paid £2k for it ) and has put a Powerflow exhaust on it (from Topgear in St Albans), because the old exhaust was falling apart. Sounds pretty good to me.

 

Did he notice any sort of performance gain carl (even slight?) £2k is a good price for an s-reg, how many miles?

May not be entirely relevent but the OE exhaust on my 1.9 205 GTi is pretty much as good as it gets - most aftermarket kit actually reduces power/torque.

 

He got it cheap off his boss's brother who wasn't aware of how much it was worth. And it has the disadvantage of being green (metallic green, though, not the nasty solid green like the 406 I had for a while ). I think it's about 45k-50k miles on the clock.

TBH it only had the rotten exhaust on there for a couple of days. It seems plenty quick enough to me.
