Never thought I post this sort of question on Scoobynet, but here goes.

Looking at doing a major decking project myself. Logical brain to work out what's required but stuff all practical ability to saw wood accurately with a hand saw.

So I'm looking a buying either a table saw or a compound mitre saw, the one that comes down on the wood then you push it across.

Both do mitres/bevel cuts. Mitre saw advantage is that it will be easier to cut long planks in half, shortways, table saw advantage is that you can cut long planks in half longways.

Which would you get?

Ta folks.

So I'm looking a buying either a table saw or a compound mitre saw, the one that comes down on the wood then you push it across.

That would be a 'Crosscut Mitre Saw '. Another possibility is a stardard 'Circular Saw' which would be a hugh amount cheaper and would just require you to mark cuts and angles before cutting.

IMHO the Crosscut Mitre Saw is the tool for the job but you could save yourself at least 100 quid but it will take twice as long on each cut using a standard circular saw. A circular saw has the advantage of being about to do long cuts.

Just buy both ;)

how much have you got to spend?

You can pick up used Elu flipsaws for about £250 - this will do both your cross cuts and rip cuts.

If your only going to use the saw once then get a disposable chopsaw & circular saw from B&Q.

Budget around £100. Need to do fencing as well. A good couple of months work at my standard.
A straight forward circular saw is an option but not with my skills. Need something I can setup (no problem with that) then not mess up :)

I've bid for a crosscut mitre saw thing on ebay and might just pick a cheap circulaw from b&q that I can throw away later.

Many thanks for your replies. Now, does anyone fancy poping 'round to do it all for me :D :D
