Does Subaru supply a genuine dash mounted gauge pod for the Classic Impreza (MY98)???

AFAIK, yes they do, it fits in place of the oddment tray on top of the dash, costs one arm and one leg, and will only fit very small gauges!

Part numbers: H0017FC900O Instrument panel upper case and H5010FA035 Sport gauge pack. The gauges are 52mm and they do cost an arm and a leg, approx £800:eek:

Are the gauges part of the pack or are they a different supplier?

The gauges are part of the Subaru Sport pack, you have to buy a pod to fit them in. Both part numbers are mentioned above.

Can someone confirm that this is indeed the dash mounted gauge pod that is positioned in the dash above the centre console, (MY98) as Subaru can't tell me if this is the case.

I was quoted €90 for this part by subaru but this sounds a bit cheap for a genuine part. Any input would be greatly appreciated.... once again.

The pods are £70 including tax, so it's about right.

As mentioned above, you need to have a centre oddment tray. If you've got one, then it's right. Also, it's difficult (but not impossible) to get 52mm gauges in that pod.

Saying that, if you have the oddment tray it is the best match for the interior going :D

Yes I do have the odment tray on the dash. Its a MY98 UK turbo. Will just go and order it so.

Also just for information purposes I think the whole sports pack costs about €860 (that's euro) so dont know if its worth peoples while ordering it from Ireland or if it's possible, what with the exchange rate and all that. Might save people a few quid.

If 52mm dia guages are a bit of a tight fit - what's recommended that's quite a good match - I'm not to keen on the "wavy-topped" pods.

This is just about the best match going. You need to cut a few arcs in the original pod. Also, the pod doesn't come with a "face", so you'll need to construct one. A piece of black plastic'll do the job.

Do these pods fit in the standard slots i.e. do you have to drill the dash or can I simply remove the tray lid & slot in the slider holes as it were - hope that makes sense.

The pod replaces the lid in the dash compartment. Not 100% sure but as far as I know the existing lid brackets just screw out and the new pod is bonded in its place.


Seeing as there is no face in the pod (surprised at that) do subaru supply the face separately? And if so is there a part number? Maybe Richiewong might be able to throw some light on this as he was good enough to supply the other part numbers.

For the subaru pod, you have to cut some of the dash away, specifically the base of the oddment tray. The lid does unscrew, but then you need to remove some plastic. I think you remove the vents, cut plastic, and refit the vents.

The face isn't available separately. Fabricate a bit of plastic and you're laughing.

AFAIK the plastic face came with the gauge set. This is a fairly large piece which the gauges are mounted to and attached at the rear, under the pod, with a couple of screws. I may quickly run outside to take a pic:D

Had the Upper Instrument Panel Case delivered yesterday. Looks the business. Thanks for the advice.
Can you tell me what make and diameter are the gauges in your photos?
Any recommendations on where I could get similar ones to match the original dials.
Also roughly what thickness is the panel where the gauges are mounted? Preparing for a bit of fabrication.

Those are the STi/Lamco 52mm gauges available from any dealer. Part No H5010FA035 Sport gauge pack for Classics. They come in both white and black faced, but are garishly lit:rolleyes:
AFAIK this comes with all necessary fixings and brackets including the front plastic surround. This is about 7mm thick and is actually angled to face towards the driver
