We need a light surface for the kitchen worktops... What are the pros and cons of different materials and where is the best place to buy?

Need one plain 10 foot and one 14 foot with holesfor sink and hobs...

Do you mean light in colour or weight?

Good point... - Light in colour actually, ;) Got lots of dark wood in the kitchen and dark work surfaces don't help.

Cheers

it all depends on your budget and what you want,
For a wooden top go for maple, beech or maybe cherry, all reasonably light coloured woods and easy to work with.
If you are minted you could go for marble but it will cost ya, or you could try granite which comes in a range of colours from light to dark.
There is also a product called Corian which is a type of plastic material that is almot identical to the look of granite but can be a ******* to work with because it's quite brittle.
All depends on what you want, what your budget is and what will work in your kitchen.

And be aware that quite a few foodstuffs will stain light coloured tops, so you spend ages trying to remove marks with blach!

Alcazar, (just swopped white worktops for darker granite.)
