Hello,
I am looking at buying a house that needs a lot of work doing on it, and one of the jobs is removing an asbestos garage and an asbestos roof on a bit of the extension
If anyone has ever had any removed before, would you be able to tell me how much it roughly costs?
Cheers
Mark :)

That is not a DIY job matey
A mate in work just had the same thing done on his..... if you contact your local council they will put you in touch with the proper people who will come and remove it, they suit up and wear breathing apparatus and dispose of all the aspestos into a sealed container for removal.
I think my mate only paid part cost to this as the local authority have some sort of scheme going, yours is probably doing the same as they want to encouage proper disposal and not just dumping it as some do.
Not one for a DIY job to try trust me on that
Cheers

I would not be so concerned, I have removed a aspedos garage, spoke to local council who were dubious about me doing it at first but when I questioned what I couldn't do they told me what I needed. I did the job and saved approximately 4K. Any competent diyer in my opinion can do this job as long as you wear correct clothing and demolish in sensible manner ie. as little cutting as possible and make sure it is contained in a proper skip ie. sealed lid.
IMHO it is huge cost to have this removed by a company and as long as it is done in a sensible way you will save a lot of money and not be putting yourself at risk.
If you want more info just let me know.

Must agree, spend some of the money you are going to save on very good safety clothing/breathing apparatus and sealed skip. You'll have more use for it in the future as well.

yep its a DIY job, get yourself a good suite and mask. Then spray all the panels with water which helps stop any particals becomming airborn.
The aim is to remove the panels without cutting or damaging them as that will cause dust and thats bad. So remove the roof first by cutting/unscrewing the brackets which hold it on. Then slide out the panels. Finally pull apart the frame.
Hire out an asbestos skip and put all the rubbish in there

This will be white asbestos and relatively harmless. YES do wear a set of paper overalls, over shoes, goggles, simple face mask, gloves and a hat. Do NOT go into your house with these items on, you must change every time you want a pee ;)
Green asbestos is very dangerous and usually only found around old commercial boilers and lagging etc. The product you are up against is "asbestolux" and is found all over the place. Buy some heavy duty bin bags and wrap as much as you can and then put it in the skip. Just be sensible, try not to create any dust.
Just to add, back in the 60's "asbestolux" was the MDF of today. Many people worked knee deep in the dust and openly breathed it in. There have been a few cases of asbestoses through this stuff but it cant be attributed to "asbestolux" as green or red asbestos was used in close proximity of it.
If you want to know any more or you want me to send you some *FREE* overalls, let me know.
Dont worry, just take the precautions and you'll save yourself shed loads (parden the pun) of money..
.....................nothing pi55es you off more when you've outlayed all that money and the company who comes to take it down just send muppets to do it!
