Would anyone have an idea what sort of price I could expect to have a new boiler (combi hw/ch) and 6 thermostatic valves fitted to my existing central heating? The boilers I'm looking at vary a fair bit, but I'd go for one about £900ish.

At 200 per day, should be 1.5-2 days

So at 2 days, I'm looking at £1300 just for the boiler and fitting..................Had a couple of quotes through now, I can't see where the other £1200 comes from tho as they are both in the region of £2500.

I paid £1200 for a new combi last year - this included fitting & testing. It took around 10 hours to do the job. I agree with Orby, 1.5 - 2 days should be right including the valves. I've heard of prices around £1800 in London area for supply & fitting a combi.

Just for the boiler fitting and valves.

You can get a good heat pak for £600-800 and that includes the rads + valves.

If you want a well branded combi then yep £600 just for the boiler then £20 per valve.

Assuming you're not changing fuel type then I would expect a good plumber to have swapped a boiler over in 1 day so approx £200, therefore I would hope that you wouldnt be charged more than £1000-1100

The quotes we've had have been around £2300-£2500. I felt like I'm potentially being ripped off at that price before I even seen your prices.

It's a straight forward gas boiler to gas condensing boiler swap.

There are a number of things to consider which involve extra cost such as..

Is the existing boiler a combi or does the system require converting.
How close is the nearest drain pipe for the condensate pipe connection.
Has the position of the flue pipe been considered because of the pluming effect.
Will the existing heating system be jetflushed or just drained.

I would say a fiqure of £2000 inc is more realistic taking account of the above points and what has been already said.

1) The existing boiler does the hw/cw if that makes it a combi boiler.
2) About 6ft
3) Wassat?
4) probably just drained

Still £3-500 short ;) :D

I'm in N. Yorks

A combi boiler heats hot water on demand where a conventional will heat water and store it in a hot water tank.

2) About 6ft
3) Wassat?

Where the exhaust gas leaves the boiler

4) probably just drained

Its recommended the system is flushed and is worth checking if the quote includes it or not.

Still £3-500 short ;) :D

1. Do you have a hot water cylinder, if you do then it is alot more work to change over to a combi system.
2. Thats fine.
3. With condensing boilers the flue gas temp is lowered down to the dew point which then produces water vapour, so what you will see is a plume of white "smoke" about 2-3m long coming out of the flue terminal which is something to bear in mind when it is close to a boundary line.
4. Jetflushing costs about £300 as opposed to just draining down.

I'm in Bucks so a bit too far away.

We have a hot water tank, so I guess it ain't a combi.
The current boiler is quite close to the boundary, unavoidable as there's literally nowhere else for it.

The longer this thead gets, the more you're convincing me the price isn't so bad........Damn!!!
