Anyone had any problems with radio reception after changing the standard head unit to a new one? My new unit seems to have problems with the built in aerial, tried it with another car and its fine? Any suggestions?
You need to make sure that the remote lead from your headunit, usually blue if I am correct, is connected to the subaru loom. This allows the internal aerial amplifier to work.
You may find that your blue wire has a couple of spade connectors on it. If you connect them together it will complete the connection. It is often labeled as the remote aerial lead. Is it a Pioneer unit?
yeah its a pioneer unit. It has one blue cable off the main ISO connector. There are other wires but these are the power ones. I will pull the stereo out and give it a go.
The other thing to note is that adding an amp can cause interference - it certainly has in my case. I do need to add a "normal" aerial. I'll let you know what I find out.
Bugger, having rigged it up to test, it's a massive (like night and day) improvement.
Damn. I was hoping it wouldn't solve the problem
Had to reassemble everything, as I need to find a cone cutter that'll go up to 19mm, and will cut metal... Mine has gone walkabout. Of course, I find that out after I get the roof lining out!
