Whats the best way to kill moss growing like mad on our north facing tarmac driveway ? The driveway has a lawned section on one side that I don't want to kill.
Would something like pathclear work, or do I run the risk of it leaching into the lawn ?
thanks,
Michael

I just use the pressure washer on mine every couple of years - seems to work quite well. Weedkillers tend to wash off when it rains and run into surrounding areas.
The trick is to prevent the buildup of algae, dust and wind-blown organic stuff (soil, bits of leaf etc) - which gives the moss something to grow in.

Jeyes fluid is quite good for algae on paths, not sure how it would cope with moss - maybee put some in a sprayer and do it that way.

be very careful with jeyes fluid as it is highly toxic to many animals, particularly cats. You can get lawn sand from most diy/garden centres. Just sprinkle it on the drive and it should do the job.

Thanks for the replies guys.
I was hoping to avoid Lawn Sand as I seem to recall it has Iron Sulphate in it, and I don't want "rust" spots all over the hall & stair carpets after it's being brought into the house on the soles of shoes.
I think I'll try and borrow a pressure washer and try that. Interestingly I just did a search on Jeyes Fluid and one of it's recommendations is for cleaning kennels - I sit really that toxic ?

yes you are right about the Iron Sulphate - could make quite a mess
re the jeyes fluid, it contains phenol and there is something peculiar about cat's metabolism which makes phenol highly toxic. Other animals (including dogs) are not affected.

IIRC "Pathclear" is harmless to other plants, pets etc, once dry?

Even skin exposure to TCP (trichlorophenol) or ethylene glycol based anti freeze can be enough to do away with all nine lives simultaneously! ;)

Far from it. Pathclear contains paraquat which can cause systematic poisoning of the respiratory system.
Edited to add: on that cheery note I'd recomend the pressure washer! :D

Hmmm, Perhaps Jeyes is a better solution at stopping the 8 (counted so far) cats fornicating/fighting/pi55ing on my drive/cars as opposed to the useless so called "deterrants"
Plus I can get rid of the moss too :D
2 birds with 1 stone an all that.....
apart from there's no birds - cats have killed them all
