Hi peeps,

Im after a bit of advice as I have just restructured all my finances etc and now have a smaill loan to pay for

a) plumbing (replace boiler and fireplace and provide new rads)
b) House rewire (3 bedrooms, living room, backroom, kitchen and workroom)

On top of this I am having all the windows replaced (not at the moment though) so that I can then start to decorate properly.

Now this plumber is a good friend so I don't think he would be offended by asking if we could loose the VAT. Any tips re: price etc and bargaining hints.

I also have another friend who is an electrician and im gonna ask him to rewire the house (replace and install new sockets as well as put some more in because its a 1960s house and has the average 1 single socket per room). Also want to run cat 5 to each room.

Am I likely to be able to get these for around £3K or am I dreaming ?

Allow £1.5k boiler, rads and controls plus whatever your friend charges.

It will be less that £500 for all the electrical bits and if your friend is not used to re-wiring a house it will take him weeks and loadz £££. Get a team that do house rewiring and it should be cheaper than your mate and take a couple of days.

Most electricians wont do network cabling and most places I've found charge £50 per socket with visable cables :(
