View Full Version : ITV to show WRC 2004
Iain Young 09 January 2004, 15:56 ITV have just signed a 3 year deal to show the WRC, starting with the 2004 season. Going to be shown as a 1 hour program on Sunday afternoons with extended coverage for the Welsh rally. I wonder if they'll make a better job of it than Channel 4 did....
Iain
ozzy 09 January 2004, 16:19 Probably about as good a job as their F1 coverage.
RB5SCOTT 09 January 2004, 17:07 Probaly not if they are showing it on a sunday when the rally starts on friday
BOB.T 09 January 2004, 19:57 gggrrrrrreat:rolleyes:
If Jim Rosental has anything to do with it, I'm gonna track him down and kick him in the nutsimages/smilies/mad.gif
Bonehead 09 January 2004, 20:07 Why do people moan about ITV's F1 coverage?
Yes there's the ads, but ffs look at what else we get as opposed to what the BBc used to put out.
Tony
BOB.T 09 January 2004, 21:01 Thee BBC's F1 coverage was really good!
Davey P 10 January 2004, 01:13 What a load of bolox?
Now we are gonna have to be really careful not to hear the results all weekend.
Iain Young 10 January 2004, 02:05 Well I reckon...
1 hour program
4 ad breaks of about 5 minutes each
5-10 minutes of waffle at the beginning / end
Which leaves about 30 minutes for actual coverage of the driving itself. Not too good considering the event runs over 3 days. I think I'll be sticking to the coverage on Eurosport (assuming I can work out when they are actually going to show it - always seems to be at some rediculous time in the evening / early morning :().
Iain Young 10 January 2004, 02:07 The news story in full....

APJ 10 January 2004, 02:38 This is bad news.
However grim the C4 program was, at least it was frequent! ITV will just dumb it down even further.
Spooks 10 January 2004, 20:16 So are Eurosport still gonna show any of WRC? God I hope so..... ITV's coverage is shockingly bad, 1 hour of a 3 day rally....geez
Spooks
NEIL555 10 January 2004, 20:47 at least it won't get cancelled because the cricket has over run
n one 11 January 2004, 13:24 pants
rb5 286 12 January 2004, 07:58 maybe a big group of us should go to each of the rallies, armed with our vid cams and do the filming ourselves lolol
speedking 12 January 2004, 09:42 At least if it's shown at a consistent time then I can video it and skip the adverts :) I could never do that with Ch4. As WRC alternates with F1 then no DIY any Sunday afternoon all through the summer ;)
paulpalmer 12 January 2004, 13:35 I thought they were starting with the 2005 season
Iain Young 12 January 2004, 18:03 Not according to the IV website. They start with the 2004 season...
MJN 555 13 January 2004, 09:47 Would much rather have 3 shows to keep up to date even if the times are a joke, 1 hour on Sunday not good, lets hope Eurosport carry on with thei usual transmissions.
Cheers
GTB Limited 13 January 2004, 10:34 Due to new WRC rules, an hour will be fine.
Recee morning, race afternoon = 8 stages ;)
Mark
speedking 13 January 2004, 14:27 Will there be a www.itv-wrc.com (http://www.itv-wrc.com) or similar?
greasemonkey 13 January 2004, 14:44 It remains to be seen how many of the 2004 events run the 1000 Pistes format Mark. ;)
johnfelstead 13 January 2004, 16:36 hopefully none.
Hasn't Eurosport lost the rights to broadcast WRC and some other satelite broadcaster has those now?
SC008Y_MAD 14 January 2004, 12:40 The best news i have herd in a long time, apart from Petter Solberg wining the WRC championship!

hip hip
harray!
STE.W. 14 January 2004, 13:00 If Eurosport have lost the rights and we cant get the programmes from the other satelite station (s) then we'er goosed imho images/smilies/mad.gif
ITV's coverage compared to Channel no.4's will be a compressed and diluted interpretation of the whole event. It will compacted and dumbed down to let a wider audience understand what they think rallying is all about images/smilies/mad.gif
In effect rallying for 2 - 3 year olds.
Ch 4's info was thinned out enough as it was without this :rolleys:
Already been said I spose but its still pants to say the least.
We'll be right back after the brake with "Tony's stage stats" said Jim in a sleezy slimey manner not realy knowing what feck he was talking bout:rolleyes:
On another note how the hell did colin Mac get into the photo above???? :D:D:D
Underneath Petter, theres a dood with Pirelli hat. Look to his left, Colin you sneaky lad you! :D:D:D:D Pick me, Pick me Colin was heard to say just before Tommy told him it would be better for him to leave now!
More from the twisted mind of Ste.W. in future issues of "Why is the WRC being turned into this Sh1t" the story of epic battles over one stage events held for 5 minutes somewhere in Bernies back garden!:D:D:D but images/smilies/mad.gif as feck.
Ste. out.
n one 14 January 2004, 20:20 Even worse, in MN its reports they`re keeping Desborough (if thats his name) & probably Robbie Heeead as presenters. Pants
Desert Fox 14 January 2004, 23:22 Stay with Sky. At least their comentators sound like they know what they are talking about.
Thunder77 15 January 2004, 01:50 Looks like Eurosport are still showing their usual 30mins coverage, starting Friday 23rd of Jan at 10:15pm and same time on Sat & Sun.
:)
STE.W. 15 January 2004, 11:59 :D
Thats good news if Eurosport are still broadcasting it. :)
looking on the bright side, things cant get any worse with the WRC ...... Can they.
Ste
greasemonkey 15 January 2004, 15:15 Hmmm, Desborough is okay, but now Angus Scott (who's another pleasant TV type) is anchoring it, I don't really see where JD fits. Hope they're not planning on him doing Jeremy Hart's job.
As for Robbie, I live in hope that he'll cheer up a bit on camera. He always looks and talks like his dog's just died...
rjlinney 15 January 2004, 15:21 That is absolutely appaling.
One 1 hour show, for a three day event - on the Sunday.
That is absolutely sh*te!
Bring back C4 I say - it was much better with a programme to summarise each day, even if they were too short and at weird times of the night.
What is going on?
Where can we complain?
This has got to be sorted!
