I have a seperate alarm on the garage and the house, we had a power cut on new years eve, and both sounders went off, so therefore the back-up power (battery) didn't take over, thought it must have been the battery as they're quite old, so bought 2 new ones, fitted the garage one and still no joy, is there a fuse or something else I can check??

Cheers.

The back-up batteries in the bell boxes did work, they thought that someone had cut the wire, so they sounded, there I was a near midnight new years eve up a ladder disconnecting the batteries in the bell boxes!! At the moment I have left the batteries in the bell boxes disconnected in case of further power cuts, it's not uncommon round these parts!!

So you've replaced the batteries in the alarm control box and still no joy?

Depends on the make of control panel mate, some do have an internal 12 fuse which will be mounted on the main pcb should be easily spotted if its blown cos it's clear glass.
Also grab youself a multimeter and switch it to test dc stick it on the end of you battery leads in your panel if it reads less than 12v and your battery fuse is ok the panels buggered, should read around 13.6v

Thanks guy's, strange thing is, both alarms work fine on 240v, it's only when we get a power cut that they go off wrongly.
Will have a better look for a 12v fuse tomorrow.

the battery charging circuit has been known to go tits up on alarm systems. easily spotted by a brown crusty regulator.
