Speedo conv. causing ECU probs??
Had a conversation with someone today about pre 96 import Scoobs.
He says one of the parameters the ECU reads is the speed of the car which is read off the speedo.
The kms to miles speedo conversion includes a small gearbox on the cable.
Therefore when the car is doing say 100mph, the ECU thinks its doing 60mph, and is lean on fuel accordingly causing pistons to melt etc. etc......
A. Is this true?
B. Why does the ECU need to know the speed?
C. Is there a fix?
