Could it be that the bathroom is damp?

fit an extractor fan (with humidify sensor) or fill the toilet with hot water

Thanks david :) i have an Ebac dehumidifier that i leave in the toilet constantly, the water temp in the header is so cold, therefore the outside face off the header is stone cold so any warm air meeting it immediately condenses.

Just wondered if there was anyway off coating it to stop it sticking, ive tried WD40 but it starts to go all white in colour in 1 day & drips off, the house was built in the sixties so i suppose a more modern tank material may not get as cold?

There is no way to actually stop the tank getting condensation on it in this weather, except keep the bathroom/toilet hot.

You could try "Rain-Ex" on the tank outer, supposed to stop condensation sticking, but it'll still drip onto the carpet.

My dad had this problem in his downstairs loo, and we solved it by putting shelf brackets under the tank, and standing a rectangular plastic plant-pot base, as bought from garden centres, on the shelf.
They come in various shades, his is white to match the loo.
It catches the drips, which then re-evapotate as teh room becomes warmer: no marks on carpet.

you can get plastic trays that clip to the pipe under the cistern to collect the drips oh and tile the floor, carpets in bathrooms are minging.

could I make a wee suggestion?

why not drop a small fish tank heater in the cystern if the problem is that bad. They have an inbuilt stat, even on the lowest setting it would cure your problem.

You would not be able to connect it into a socket as these are a no-go in bathrooms, however you ( or your sparky ) could wire it into a fused spur.

does this problem occur straight after a flush when the cistern is refilled, or does it collect over time?

Where does your cold feed to the cistern run, inside the house or out?

thanks mj, was wondering about heating the tank but didnt know how, the cold feed is internal, the bathroom is quite small which i think isnt helping, obviously its worse when ive had a shower for condensation, but it drips off all day, even with no one in the house, is there such a thing as a battery powered heater for fish tanks?

I would'nt know about specific heaters, but I would think if there was a battery powered job available, it would need strapping to a car batery.

I used to keep fish, and I seem to remeber they operated between about 65 deg F to 80 Deg F, just lukewarm really. I think they are about £15-£20.

Do a google.co.uk for aquarium supplies :D

Due to the mains water been so cold at this time of year and your bathroom been warm... its bound to happen. You can get a liner that will fit inside and cure the problem.

But remember ..If you have a hiddern system then you wont see the problem... So check from time to time that you dont have a problem.

Sorry MJ - Private joke (sort of).
I work with Andy and he fitted acua piping to his boost gauge.
He then had a remap. Bob Rawle ripped him to pieces for trying to save 50p :D
