Question

Hi John,

No email on your profile, so apologies for this method of contact.

My engine is being rebuilt at the moment by API, the root cause appears to have been detonation. David told me to contact you with regard to the 'preventive measures' to stop it happening again (actually he said you were one of the guru's - you owe him money for that ). Anyway, John could you advise me for a 94 STI - I know the ScoobyECU is well recommended, but is it defiantely the one to get for UK fueling and safe control maps to go with it? David said your the best one for 'proper advice' and not cowboy stuff (raising boost through the roof etc.).

Any advice much appreciated John.

Regards,
Mark

Don't know about guru, I am an enthusiastic amateur who fiddles a bit with ECUs.

I don't know much about the 94 STi, but I reckon a ScoobyECU would be a very good idea if you can get it custom mapped to your car.

A boost gauge and knocklink should be the minimum required monitoring thereafter.

Always using Optimax plus NF octane booster and/or water injection and a good intercooler running a big enough turbo (your TD05 is OK) at sensible boost will go a long way.

API will obviously keep you right on all the mechanical stuff that should be checked or changed with a rebuild following a failure.

Suggest you contact the ScoobyECU guys.
