Hi All

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry Power Engineering state that this is for UK Spec cars only so no imports allowed, I am afraid this does not include the P1 as it has an Import ECU.

FAQ

Q. Whats this I hear about a secret low boost remap?

A. All EcuTeks have this programmed into them. This function is included as part of the ECU fitting. Its involves pressing the rear screen heater button and a certain sequence to activate an alternative map (you will find out what the sequence is when you get your ECU mapped). Don’t worry the rear windscreen heater is not disabled and will function as normal. The altered map reduces the boost so the car performs as a normal Impreza. Great for when its the Mrs turn to drive ;)

Q. Is there anyway this can be done without the car present. I could send spec. and/or original ECU ?

A. No the ECU has to be attached to the car

Q. Do I need a 3 port solenoid ?

A. A 3 port boost solenoid is from an STi/import a 2 port is from a UK car. It doesn’t matter which one you have they wont make any difference to the remap or the performance.

Q. At present I only have a de-cat and soon a K&N induction filter. By the time the re-map is due I should have fitted a Knocklink and at least a boost gauge if not oil temp and pressure gauges. Do I have to have an uprated fuel pump too? I appreciate if I added stuff like a different turbo etc it would need re-mapping but TBH I'm be quite happy with that little extra the re-map would give with the mods I'll have by then.

A. Fuel pump will only be required if you are looking to upgrade other areas of your car at the same time

Q. Do I need any modification to my standard car ?

A. No ! but to get the best out of the remap I would advise you to look at your cars breathing. Decat exhaust (or sports cat) and upgrade your air filter or increase your cold airflow to existing your filter. Power Engineering can talk you through what you would expect to see with respect to your mods.

Q. What happens during the remapping ?

A. Your car is put on the rollers to find out your cars performance. You discuss your requirements with PE (Torque, Optimax/UL fuel, max BHP etc, etc) Then the ECU is loaded with a base map set to as close to your mods and requirements as possible and re run on the rollers to recheck the map. If required the ECU will be fine programmed again to increase performance, remove flat spots and smooth the curve etc. Take the car for a spin to see if you have any problems. Drive away with a big smile on your face.

Group Buy testimonials so far

Blue Scoop

Just been to PE and had great results. Chris did a fantastic job on the car. Power increased by 31 bhp and torque a whopping 41 lb/ft.

Well, the car started out with Vf28 turbo, Tsl downpipe, decated center and group N backbox. The itg was replaced by a massive custom fit K+N cone filter.

The first run was basically cr@p only 260bhp
Second run had a base map done from similar mods and got
297bhp and 265lbs/ft

I thought that was it but Chris made a few tweaks and ended with...
309bhp at 6175rpm and 285lbs/ft torque at 4100rpm

The best thing is I get 270lbs/ft torque at just little over 3000 revs
The difference is just amazing....worth the hard earned notes

Great job

Minidog

To all potential upgraders

I have had an ecu remap and filter done by Power Engineering and I would like to say that they were absolutely fantastic. I have never spent a better £600 plus (or whatever it was?)I strongly recommend anyone to go for it.

The car felt completely different afterwards and so much power!!!

They gave me a choice of changing boost by pressing the rear window demister (Totally James Bond!).

What do I do now ?

If you are interested then please contact Power Engineering directly, discuss your requirements and your mods on the car.

Hi Neal, Just to clarify I phoned PE and told them I won't be getting the remap done until the end of Feb, they told me to phone them back nearer the time to book it in, so I'm not actually booked in yet. I take they will keep a record of who's been included in the group buy and who's paid the deposit?

Anyway:

Car: MY97 UK, Full decat, K&N Induction, Forge VTA, Samco's and currently a Dawes.

Map I'm after: Mapped for Optimax and a nice big boost in torque across the Rev range, not paticularly bothered about fuel consumption.

Expected Power Figures: Between 270-280BHP, around 260ish lb/ft torque.

Here's looking forward to Feb :D

DreXel, No worries PE have a list of all your information and that you have paid your deposit. If you have any problems let me know as I have the information at hand and will sort it out.

Suppose I better give my info

Not booked in yet as I am waiting for some Injector adaptors. Looks like it will be early Jan for my remap.

Engine Spec, UK MY98, Full decat, K&N induction with lots of cold air feeds, VF24 Turbo, Intercooler tilted/Auto and manual water spray/air splitter, 440cc injectors, 5.5kg lightened flywheel and AP organic clutch, uprated fuel pump and regulator, Blitz boost controller that will be removed before ECU remap. Lost out on some equal length headers twice now :(.

Going for a Torque map, with fuel economy off boost based on Optimax fuel

Hoping from that little lot to get 300BHP, 275LBF and loads of big smiles.

Cheers

Neal

TBH I can't see a reason why you can't still use your Blitz Boost controller, as long as you don't set boost any higher than the the boost the car will be mapped for. I can understand the need to disconnect it for the actual mapping process, but once mapped to a specific boost level you could reconnect the Boost controller and set it to the same boost level, surely?

I intend to get an Apexi AVC-R at a later date, I don't see any reason why it can't be used in conjunction with this remap.

DreXel, no real need for it anymore, once the ECU is remapped I will have 2 x boost settings available to me anyway. I dont want to be in the position where I think lets just wind it up a bit and end up regretting it as the engine will be running far more power than it was originally set up for. I have had it for over a year and its been great, far more contollable than a Dawes device and great at controlling overboost under different weather conditions with the standard turbo. I will miss some of the functions on it but I would be better taking it off and selling it as I have spent a shed load of dosh just recently time to recoup some money to pay for my mods.

Blitz DSBC soon up for sale £100

Cheers

Neal :)

Just for info and a quick question.
Booked in for 2nd Jan.
MY00 with Scooby sport centre and back box, ITG air filter.
Having the down pipe and remap done at PE.
I have kept the original centre section and can people let me know if I refit this at MOT am I likely to pass emmisions, if not should I keep original down pipe as well?.
I also didnt realise that the reprogramme was set to individual tastes. Any ideas what I should go for if I said I am about to start auto tests next year again which is mainly 1st/2nd gear with tight turns/handbrake use.PS will not really be doing track days (worried about expensive off's).
also 60/40 mix town to motorway driving.
Thanks in anticipation

Whats this i hear about the rear heater button nobody said this to me at PE.

John P
15 December 2003, 18:24
A friend had his done and the rear heater thing is this.
Your mapping as it is at present is left on the ecu and a new map is in effect downloaded. You can then toggle between the settings. His is press rear heater on/press down accelerator and release then turn engine on. This then tells the ECU to have the new programme. Like an earlier post it is like having a girlie button for tower steering in the Fiat's but slightly different if you get the meaning. Hence you can also revert to the original map. No-one can tell even on a service if you have set back to original map
Hope this helps

John P, keep the downpipe you will need it for the MOT, the centre is not good enough on its own. but the downpipe is alright on its own. You can get a replacement centre for about £55 from Magnex. Might be worth getting that fitted before the remap !

Regarding remap type, have a chat to PE about your intended uses they will be able to help you out.

Iain, email my profile and I will let you know when its available. This is the one I have (http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Speedway/9589/dsbc_inst.html)

Taylor, ooooh nice wheels, what type ? Send pics ! Rear heater switch is activated as John said above.

Cheers

Hi Neal,

I also rang PE this morning and spoke to Robert he was understanding and said no problem for a refund. He asked me to pass on my details to PE (name and address i guess) and then he would speak to yourself, so i'm not quite sure who will refund me but i will send my details to him anyway.

Sorry again for the hasstle mate.

James.

With regard the ECUTEK Toggle Option.... AFAIK this is only asvailable on MY01 ECU and newer.

If it works on a MY00 then great, but mine didn't last night.

Refer to the ECUTEK Website http://www.ecutek.com/products/mapswitch/

LOL at Dave

The only reason why my wife is on the insurance is because she makes it about £60 cheaper  Mind you looks like I will have to change brokers due to the mods.Looks like Liverpool and Victoria looks promising. They quote on their website that they dont except mods but are fine if you call them for a quote !!!!!
