On my 93 WRX there is a baffle box between the air filter/airflow meter and the intercooler. This has a breather pipe attached to it. I was wondering if it is possible to remove this baffle and replace it with a straight through aluminium one, and if it would make any performance difference. Has anybody tried this or have any views on doing it?
Cheers, Mark

Mark,

Feeling the need for more speed eh

I know that on old Golf GTIs this bit used to flex and that replacing it with an aluminium one helped maintain the airflow. But not sure on the Scooby.

Not sure if your WRX has one but I've just removed the resonator from my air box. Now I can hear the turbo and BOV properly. Sounds so good that I've been out for the last 3 hours Also seems to be a bit faster but might just be me thinking its faster.

Dave

Thumbs up

Mark

Just removed the resonator from my UK Turbo (MY00) - Big difference! Great sound - you can hear the dump valve hissing!!

It does seem to have made the car a little smoother and the turbo appears to wind up a little faster - might be my imagination. Recommended

Chris, I have now removed the resonator from inside the front wing.
DaveW, I told you i'd do it sharpish!! Easy wasn't it?
As you say, what a great sound. The wastegate is more audible but not excessive and the exhaust note seems to have 'matured' a little as well.
I haven't found any alloy piping yet but I will....

Good one Mark - thought you would like it.

I've a couple of things left to do. New K&N panel filter arrives this week, so this will need fitting and I need to find some tubing to fit inside the wing to direct the air. Still cheaper than fitting a full on induction kit though.

I also read that it is a good idea to seal the hole in the side of the engine bay leading into the wing, to stop hot air from the engine being drawn into the filter.

Chris, I've used the trusty old foam draught excluder tape. It seems to do the job perfect. Just put it around the hole so that when you replace the air filter housing it gives a tight fit.
