View Full Version : Damp proof survey markr1963 22 November 2003, 14:49 Anyone recommend a conpany that can do one of these? Preferably local (Derby /Notts) TIA Mark Corgi 22 November 2003, 20:44 http://www.terminix.co.uk/ Use them a few times, good company. markr1963 23 November 2003, 13:14 Many thanks, I'll be giving them a bell tomorrow. Mark john_s 23 November 2003, 22:37 We've used Terminix before at work and they have always been very professional & efficient. One thing to beware of though is that less reputable damp proof companies may decide that you have it even when you don't to "manufacture" some work for themselves. If you are suspicious, get a building surveyor in to check it for you. John. markr1963 23 November 2003, 23:18 Cheers for the warning, John. Mark markr1963 28 November 2003, 11:02 It seems there are indeed some con artists out there images/smilies/mad.gif We had a survey done last week by a local firm (I won't give the name on here, email me if you want to know) and was told the house had rising damp pretty much everywhere and that they'd sort for £900, having knocked £300 off for us being flexible time-wise. We were always going to get more than one survey done anyway so we contacted Terminix as suggested above and they can around this morning. According to them we have no rising damp and no timber problems. The only comment they could make was that the skirting boards were very low and that probably accounted for the slight damp in the plaster. That's something that will be loads cheaper to sort out. Mark Corgi 28 November 2003, 22:26 You should phone that company back and have some words m8....as i said terminix are a good company that don't rip you off, makes a change nowadays. If you want to check the damp, or lack off, yourself, screwfix sell a damp meter for £13 and it works fine, always handy if your looking at buying a house, gives you an idea of what jobs need doing. |
