Details here (http://www.alpine-europe.com/2003/audio/datas/gb/2003_cd_receiver.htm) (about half way down)

I'm looking to upgrade the head unit in my car, and have set myself a budget of around about £200.

Looking around, the Alpine units seem very highly regarded, and the above model seems to be within my price range (purchasing online at least ;)) Does anyone on here have any experience with Alpine kit? Can anyone comment on the spec of the 9811?

I should probably make it clear at this point, that sound quality is my main priority. I'm not overly fussed on flashy lights and gadgets, but something that looks good would of course be an added bonus ;)

On the subject of price, I've seen the 9811 for £206. Anyone know of anywhere that I'd be likely to get it cheaper?

Finally, I noticed that the 9811 has a built in DAB tuner. Will this be of any use to me with a standard aerial, or will I need to buy extras to make use of this feature?

Sorry for all the questions...

K.

I doubt whether the alpine has a built in dab mate, more like compatible... you seen how much DAB units retail at?

Alpine is one of the best, if you want SQ then all are ok in that price range from Kenwood etc. try www.cel-direct.com for cost.

cheers

Hi,

The 9811 has DAB control built in - not a DAB tuner, the DAB tuner is quite a few additional £££s.

I opted for the CDA-9812RB, awesome bit of kit for the money. (circa £350 RRP I think). Didn't go for the CDA-9815 or 9813 because of the dodgy I-personalize and equaliser features - I prefer straight bass and treble control.

Hmm I am tempted by either the 9812 (£240ish) or the 7894 (£270ish). I prefer the looks of the 7894 but its not listed on the Alpine website so I assume its an older model.

Specs are very similar but I seem the 9812 plays windows media files as well.

What is the remote like on the 9812 - is it a credit card type one i.e. wireless?

Simon.

P1, I think the 7894 is an older piece of kit, but the choice is yours - still a top head unit :D

The 9812 does play WMF too - only the chuffin' changers don't :( why I ask you?

The remote is wireless.. my rattling around the car floor somewhere  its just like a normal TV remote only a fair bit smaller

Alex - If by RRP you mean the price you would pay on the high street then yes. But most online retailers do the 9812 for £240 now.

Shaggy - I know the 9812 plays WMF/WMA but does the 7894? The specs Ive seen suggest not.

Simon (still undecided).

Oops sorry Simon, misread it. I'm not sure about the 7894 palying WMA/WMF.

I went for the 9812 cos I do like the look of it

P1F. - yup thats what I meant... I bartered with my local audio place, as I prefer to be able to go back to a shop if necessary.
Another reason was they've done 6 cars for me so far, so get *good* customer discount :D
