Posting this on behalf of a mate, he's looking at buying a bike thats a cat d write off, now i think from a bit of hunting on the web that this means it was financially unviable to repair. i stand to be corrected.
its been repaired and mot'd and been inspected by our local garage and come up trumps, he can obviously get the bike much cheaper than another without the adverse history, so......
is there any way of getting this cleared from the bikes history with inspections etc...
or is this too obvious and everyone would bemaking a killing this way?

it'll only come up on those HPI check thingys people do, apart from that i don't think the log book says anything to say it's been a write off (someone might know better, i'am only getting started in this write off buisness ;)) cat. D's are not that serious a crash - could be a slight scrape on the frame that means to do the job properly would need a new frame - instant write off - to people like us who buy these write offs, it's nothing and won't get repaired :)

mmmm write offs :)

have a cat d fireblade, a cat d car and just traded in the wifes cat d car. (friend works at a breakers yard :) )

never had any bother. if you do not know what you are looking at then don't buy it. if you (and by the sounds of it the local garage) are happy with it then buy it. just remember that any saving now will be potentially lost when you sell it, unless you trade it in and don't tell the garage that it is on the register :)

Around £3,750 for clean private ones of same age and miles in Bike Trader, £4k and a bit from dealers.

I personally would want to pay a lot less but maybe thats just me.

To be honest, I wouldn't touch a bike that I knew had been thrown down the road.. They never seem to ride the same no matter what has been done..
Three Grand sounds fair enough but I'd rather pay out another 500 quid for a mint one with a clear HPI and that hasn't been down the road..
