Does anyone have a list of the main target roads where those good ol' safety vans might be operating?

Cheers in advance.

There are two speed cameras on the M4 between jc40&41. The camera vans hang out on the a465 as well

Burr, the short answer is be extremely careful everywhere. As previously stated, the bridges on the M4 and laybys on the A465 (and other A-roads) are favourites with the vans, although they were literally all over the place last year, so be on guard at all times.

Is it a fact that people will be marking speed camras with a white towel with PIG written on it down the road from them? IF so bloody good IF NOT WE ALL SHOULD

I drive around in a Volvo. The Police don't bother aiming they're cameras at Volvo drivers cause we're really sensible drivers!

If you all kept to the speed limit you would not have to worry where the Camera's are. If you want to race around everywhere why not pay out your hard earned and enter the rally for real.

the problem up here is where silly speed limits are in force - 50mph motorways and dual carriageways etc! (are the cameras on the twisty bits down there too?)
and would you believe that I would fully support cameras outside every school, hospital and smartie shop in the country? (trying for the sympathy vote now!

Never mind the speed cameras we also have a huge amount of unmarked police cars complete with sophisticated camera equipment onboard owing to the fact that Bridgend (only about 5 Miles from cardiff is the south wales vehicle constabulary training centre.

Mind you i think that if they made an example out of the likes of Mcrae, Burns etc...who were all caught last year then maybe others will think twice.

I go up and down the M4 every weekend, There are camera signs all the way along, a few places the vans hang out, usually on the motorway bridges, Newport area, just after you go over the Severn Bridge, Bridgend area, Swansea. Also When you hit the end of the M4 and cross the Pont Abraham roundabout and join the A48 they have regular spots along there, they park up in the laybys to catch you out.

There is also a fixed camera in each direction, in the 50 limit at Port Talbot.

Also round the A48 area they lurk around in Plain Navy Blue Volvo Estates.

And on the way out of Wales the hide on a slip road as you approach the Severn Bridge. I have spotted some of the vans parked off to one side of the bridges usually so they can be hidden til the last minute by a road sign or bush.

On one trip I counted 3 speed traps between Carmarthen and The Severn Bridge, they obviously don't have much real crime to deal with !!!!

The Camera Vans are normally on the M4 and A465, but expect them every where. They normally lurk out of sight around bends or over the rise (between Pencoed and Sarn)so if you see a blue'P' 1/2 mile sign on the A465 and can't see the lay by is clear, Check Your Speed!

They'll have had all rest days cancelled so all the camera vans will be out and about. They will also be aware of the route of the rally and will be parked up with a view to catch fans travelling from one stage to another, and then back to Cardiff for the Super Special at the end of the day.

The operators in the vans are mostly not Police officers, they are specially genetically modified Traffic Wardens, designed to be even less caring and more evil

Especially if the bodykit on your car makes it look like it's doing 100mph, even when it's standing still... ;)

Saw a few people last year with very muddy number plates, i.e. hand in mud, wipe over plate so no numbers can be seen!

Greasemonkey, I have no idea who you are but you seem to know a lot about me ......

Simple, there are gonna be cameras everywhere and everyone knows it, so if you're caught then its your own fault.

Bugger - I just cracked and went to Halfords at lunchtime to buy a "Road Angel" for the the car!

Severe case of gadget-itis and impulse-buying! Unfortunately it doesn't actually do much until it gets a satellite lock so i can't sit here at work fiddling with it. Now it's registered i'll hopefully be able to update the latest database which (fingers crossed) will contain all of the revenue camera locations for the rally.

I hope...

just heard on the grape vine that there are new cameras on the M4 from Reading to Newbury. They take pictures and do you on time between the camera's. There apparantly on those great big traffic info signs that come on warning you about delays etc - Oh and they are aet at just over 80mph - BUGGER!!

Iwan
05 November 2003, 21:57
The new ones on the M4 are just traffic signs with ordinary CCTV on them, nothing more sinister than that. Theres a bit of a hoax going around about them.
