I.m taking the liberty of copying this post from the MCN board of today and requesting your involvement here in Scoobynet.
The post is as follows;
Diesel Spills Kill!!
An Open Letter
I am a member of the CBR600.org.uk and MCNNinjas.co.uk web sites, we arrange joint CBR & Ninja ride outs and track days and generally talk about biking related stuff. There is a lot of friendly rivalry between the two sites and the bikes we ride, however at the end of the day we are all bikers' support one and other.
Last weekend we had a ride out to the Cat & Fiddle. Mid morning we all went our separate ways, two of the group decided to head to the Horse Shoe pass in North Wales, Lee was tragically killed on his way home after hitting a patch of diesel.
This is the post his mate Jon put up on both sites:
“Hi
I know I don't ride a CBR600, mine choice is an Aprilia, however, my best friend of 13 years (Lee Connor) has a CBR600 (H Plate).
On Saturday 18th October we met Steve and Crew for an early morning blast on the Fiddle road.
We left at 10am ish, and proceeded over to Horse Shoe Pass in North Wales.
On the way back down from the pass Lee Slid on some Diesel doing approx 40mph. I was with my Dad who also has an Aprilia. Lee collided with an oncoming Ford Mondeo, and unfortunately Lee Died instantly. I feel compelled to at least tell the riders who only met Lee the once.
Lee was my best mate, riding buddy, and he was like a brother to me. I wanted to take this opportunity to let the guys know who rode with him on Saturday. I will let you know the funeral details as soon as I get them from his family.
Rest in peace Lee.........
Jon Towell”
As you will appreciate we had only met Lee that morning, however both the CBR and the Ninja site feel compelled to take action against the danger of diesel spills.
We have set up a petition at http://www.petitiononline.com/ukdspill/petition.html
To: Government
We the undersigned are deeply concerned about the complete and utter lack of responsibility shown by the operators of some lorry's, vans and busses in allowing diesel to be spewed over the road.
This represents a complete and utter disregard to the safety of other road users, in particular motorcyclists. Diesel left on the road is the cause of countless deaths and injuries.
The Government has set targets to reduce the number of deaths on the road, a simple modification to diesel tanks could prevent a significant number of deaths.
It is time the Government introduced legislation to combat this ever increasing danger.
Sincerely,
I would be greatful if any bikers out there who have not already signed this petition take 2 mins out of their time to complete it, and if you can think of anywhere else to post this letter please feel free to do so.
Many Thanks
Kate
