All,
want to fit double glazing - Particularly like Everest but price WOW! Sales guy down to half what he started at but still about 40% more than any body else!!
What have you experienced / decided??
Price is not main concern want a good quality window with good locks fitted well with least amount of hassle (shouldn't be too much to ask - should it?)
Anybody recommend any of the big nationwide companies or local to Leicester??
Your help is appreciated

I went through Yellow Pages, and found a local guy who makes his own. I got him to bring me one to look at. Then I ordered my windows from him, one a month or so, and fitted 'em myself on a weekend. Paid for them as they were delivered.
Absoloutely no probs.
I was putting in a 6 foot by 4 foot window, with 3 openers in about 4 hours, and paying £275 all in.

Andy,
What area are you in?
Had my house fully double glazed over the weekend just gone ,
8x assorted windows all with openers, 1x bay window, front door and rear door, cost me £4000.
Everest are (IMO) fitting the same product you would get from a local reputable double glazing firm , same experience in my field (garage doors) they fit the same door I fit ... but for around double what I would do it for (thats after you beat their price down  ).
Nate.
PS house is TOO hot now !!!

BAC are vey good. Have had their windows at both my houses (and other makes to compare to..). The windows themselves are of excellent quality, very secure, and the work was carried out to a very very high standard. Had a 3 bed semi re-glazed (8 windows - 7 with openers) for about 2K. Still had the salesman round for 3 hours though even though we knew excatly what we wanted due to previous experience. Had to wait about 8 weeks from order to installation.

Andy, consider putting them in yourself. I done this and after the first one I recon I can now remove an old window and replace with one of the UPVC jobbies in less time that it would take to prepare and paint the old woodern frames. Also, it will be a lot cheaper than the rip off DG firms and you will also know the've been bolted in correctly.

watch out for the firms with the sales pitch, as a local firm offered us a quote so said yes. They said they would be about 1hr, 3hrs later the guy wanted us to sign up, had to kick him out in the end. He started off at 3.5k then came down to 1900, whats that all about. Then got a quote off my mates dad who has his own business. He just came measured up and said 1850, let me know when you want it done, blissssssss
Look at their work if you can

Stay clear of NuGlass (the company your friends would recommed).
I wouldn't recommend them to anyone, the quality of fitment is far worse than poor and we have had them round 4 times to sort stuff out but they never do it properly.
Good job its only 3 windows the rest of my windows are Anglian(sp), there were really expensive but well worth the money.
Cheers.
Ian.

If you are going down the saleman route get 3 companies around for a quote then get it in writing, show the other 2 they will beat it I garuantee you. If they get to a price and say they can't go any lower tell them you will go to one of the other companies there price will soon drop to somewhere near what you want to pay.
