Glad I could help mate!!

I'd argue the flimsy point about the Pug, the 2 I have owned have been superb, and the first one which was involved in a head on was outstanding for a car of its age, the passenger shell was untouched apart from a slight ripple in the roof, at a combined velocity of about 60-70mph.

I still say its a no brainer, having already got a Golf GTi, logic dictates () that you keep the pug

Flimsy!!! Just read that bit.

I am on my third 205 now, and they have all been great

PS, what is one of the sigs on the Pug BBS:

Something along the lines of "Volkswagen invented the hot hatch, Peugeot perfected it"

I've had both, my golf a 1985 8 valve and the 205 a mint 1990 1.9.

I'd be tempted to keep the Golf mainly because of the colour but the 205 is more hyperactive and fun to drive. My standard 1.9 was 5th quickest round Kames(sprint circuit in Scotland) at the Golf GTi owners day against far 'quicker' Golf's.
I now have a 205xs as a runaround and it can be more fun to drive than the Golf GTi on the right roads.

If it's something to own and keep then the Golf
If it's something to get up early in the morning and drive then it's the 205, every time

mmm would like to know which toyota u can more than double its original power (triple very sortly) without upgrading the internals or g/box....definatly not a celica turbo - details please - would love to know for future ref - oh btw when i say not upgraded - that means not touched at all, no original parts replaced or rebuilt...

Keep one of each - a pair of classic hot hatchs is going to be worth a fortune in a few years - especially if they are original
sure there will be magazine articles in the future that would want to test them back to back - classic car springs to mind

Too many cars, so one has to go. Its a toss up between my 205 GTi 1.9, or big bumper oak green Mk2 Golf GTi 16v. Both are low mileage and great examples.

I already have a tatty but dependable 8 valve Golf, so initial thoughts point to the 16v.

Which would you keep?

I only said the 205 coz they are generally cheaper to buy than the golf 16V.

Cool

Keep the golf without a doubt especially as you have the one to have and yet again I know someone who wants one of those in that colour. Says it all really

Golf in the lead then.

Both are great cars, but for different reasons. The Golf is iconic and very capable, civilised, grown up, built to last and judging by the comments still as desirable as ever.

But the Pug is sharper, more entertaining, and more fun. Quicker as well.

Its a tough call.

Can anyone host some pics?

Keep the Pug. As you say it's faster, sharper, more entertaining and more fun. You're not wrong.

OMG... typical Scoobynet. I was just saying that everyone on this forum likes 205 Gti's, if not owned one. Jeez man, I give up.

Ben,

It wasn't a dig, but rather that although you may believe that people on here own or have owned 205's, that instantly that would be the popular choice!

I was only pointing out that the Golf was the more popular car at the time of posting!!!

The big bumper, 16v, Oak Green, Mk2 is the Golf of choice!!!

Both great cars. I had a mk2 16v a while back. Miss it.

If it was one or the other I'd say the Golf as it'll be more durable in the long run and is better built, more upmarket etc.
HOWEVER, since you already have an 8v then I'll say keep the Puggy. (or tidy up and sell the 8v and keep the 205 AND the 16v )

keep the pug! It's a classic car, u don't want 2 Golfs!! I loved my 205, I really miss it, it was a miami blue 1. The 205 GTI is a legend, still rated as 1 of the most fun best hot-hatches ever made! KEEP IT! KEEP IT!
