View Full Version : Wales Rally GB, HOW MUCH!!!!!!!

To be honest I find the cost for the rally to be reasonable, I have been to a few rounds of the WRC as well as a number of other rallies and F1 races.

To put it in perspective below are the prices for my little jaunts including travel from the Isle of Man:

Cyprus Rally (including 10 days all inclusive 4*) £800 for 2 people.
Acropolis Rally (6 days crappy hotel) £600 for 2 people.
Wales Rally GB 5 days (travel inn type hotel 4 nights) £500 for 2 people.
IOM TT races (staying in my home) about £25 on fuel.
Manx international (staying in my home) about £25 on fuel.

F1 Silverstone (4 night in travel inn type) £1200
F1 Spa (4 night in travel inn type) £1800

Looking at these costs I really don’t see why people complain, I think that because people have been used to not paying to be a speccy, they have possibly (and with the greatest respect) started to think that they have a right to see this type of spectacle (and lets not forget how special this truly is) free of charge.

I know that the (partial) claim for the cost of tickets is payment to land owners, and some people find this unjust, but try and think how you would feel if 5000+ people descended on your street and parked on you garden.

Come on people, we are talking about watching some of the best drivers in the world, going harry flatters in on some of the best stages anywhere in the world.

Even if this is the replacement for your annual family holiday, it’s worth it.

Stuff the hotels, do what CEL and I did last year:

Get on the stage car park for midnight
Have a drinky poo
Bacon sandwhich cooked on a little stove
Stick the back seats down and sleep with your legs in the boot (LMAO)
Get up and have some Oats so simple and a cuppa
Be the first on the stage and look for escape routes from the mini hitlers in oh so tasteful orange vests
Get dirty
Get hit in the head by a huge stone from under Colins car and try not to cry
Go home
Take stone to work for show and tell

Going to save costs this year:

Find somewhere near to the stage to park (can be done, done it before)
Have a drinky poo
Bacon sandwhich cooked on a little stove
Stick the back seats down and sleep with your legs in the boot
Get up and have some Oats So Simple and a cuppa
Walk shorter distance to stage than from the car park
No mini hitlers to spoil our fun
Get dirty
Throw earlier mentioned stone at Colins windscreen (Joke)
Go home

All we spend is fuel, food, booze and fag money!

:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

I'm with scooby loo on this one ... F#ck the hotels,Half the fun of the rally is the camping in the stage car park (forest) getting sh!tfaced letting fireworks off, waking up in the morning and cooking bacon with a hangover. And then you get to watch the rally - there isnt anything better!!!:D
I do object to marshals trying to pen you in (under orders, not there fault) but you just have to get on the stage early and go for a good stomp.
Paying through the nose for tickets just to get a portaloo and a hamburger van is a complete ****ter but what can you do its still the best weekend of the year.

edited to say .. in UK

Just to put this into perspective.....

We decided not to bother with Rally GB this year and go to Catalunya instead.

We worked out it will probably cost less to go to Spain than do Rally GB

Flights were 50 quid return with Ryanair :), hire car and hotel for 4 nights is costing 150 each so a grand total of 200 quid each!

No charge for spectators at any stages :)

The beer is also cheaper out there :D:D (especially at Moby's bar when it's happy hour ;) )

Just cos I'm a bit bored, I just worked out it would be cheaper to go to both Germany & Spain, than for the 4 days of the Wales Rally GB.
Can you imagine how the Spanish would react if they were charged £75 to watch a weekends rallying!!!
I do agree that you have to pay for other motorsport events, but again how would an F1 fan feel if they had to park miles from the circuit given superior facilities such as 1 portaloo, 1 burger van selling burgers the price of Faberge eggs, no big screens to watch the action, hearded into a pen with thousands of other spectators to watch Micheal the shoe maker drive past once, and thats if the stage hasn't been canceled because somebody got within 70 yards of the track.
I know one thing, I'm going back to National and club rallying from now on, fantastic drivers in brilliant cars like 6R4's, Peogeot Cosworth, the list goes on, and all these passing within inches of you. Thats proper rallying. O'h and I don't have to wait up til 3.00 in the morning to see it on channel 4.

It is a great shame it has all come to this but have to agree with all your observations Ant/Fix did my fist Lombard RAC in 1973,best times were in the mid to late 80s many fantastic moments spectating.

My first rallies were in the 80's. Audi Quatros, 205MI16's, Lancia's, 6R4's, Ari Vatinan, Stig Blomquist, Penti Aricala. No gizmo's, just huge horsepower & shXt hot drivers.

you really must have too much time on your hands.......
why people keep raving about going to spain i don't know...... did they not have 3 stages cancelled last year because of spectator problems....... long way to go to see jack sh1t.
oh yeah, and it's tarmac (yawn)....... bring on rally GB
mud
rain
fog
and any other sh1t it can throw in.

Scoff, don't get me wrong, as stated in my 1st post I priced up Rally GB first with the intention of going. But it just seems to me to be going down the toilet in the way of expense and the nanny state taking over. I love rallying of all kind, be it gravel, snow or tarmac I'm not proud. Thats why I'll be going to Nationals in the mud/rain/fog and shxte, but won't pay through the nose for it. If I was going to go anywhere to see jack shxt, it'll be in my front room @ 3.00 in the morning watching channel 4 repeat cricket when WRC is supposed to be on. P.S. I hope you have a good time.

Blan- ya going no were mate, you will be married by then and the big wife foot will be down.
You try and let off fireworks out there, you will end up with a bottom like a Clowns Pocket after being banged up for breaking wind in a built up area-never mind proper rally anticts.

Rally GB isn't cheap but worth every penny! Actually cost me more to go to the Manx International last year and that was worth every penny as well. Don't think I've ever laughed so much in my life, cause it could'nt be anything to do with the drink! The rallying was pretty good to!

From my point of veiw RallyGB is a rip off.....BUT I think the attraction is that its the last round of the world championship and whats the odds of it going down to the wire this year? quite high (my opion). However next year it is no longer the finial event of the year so maybe spain or even better Finland (no its expensive but it warm to) seem a bit more appealing.

Janacorn fortunately (for me) I live in the IOM hence do not have to pay the extortionate travel costs or pay for digs, but obviously have to pay to get off the IOM.

When going to such events I often find it cheaper to leave the car at home then pay a king’s ransom to put it on the ferry.

As for sleeping in the car/camping my partner has told me that under no circumstances will she ever spend the night in anything other than a bed…………

With your lady on that one, does sound like fun though! Joking apart I really did enjoy IOM, just wish it was an event that I could attend every year, just between you and me had to take a sickie to go last year.

The facts are that simple, everyone has been ranting about the price hikes for the past few years, and again its fallen on deaf ears.

So, like everything else in the sh*t money obsessed country either put up with it or don't bother going, and the more that don't go the better it is for those that do as they can get about easier etc!

I will be there to see the best in the world no matter what, this year is my 12th, not exactlty a 'hardened' supporter for years like some but seen enough to know that last year was my best year yet, loved it, and think this year will be hard to top.

Go where you like, spain, cyprus, germany - all totally different to the great stages of South Wales. Follow what sport you like where you like and the out come is the same, hugely varied prices and everything in this sh*t hole is over priced, so just don't expect anything different!

There is only one thing related to cost that i really wish people would actually buoycott - and thats the discusting, dirty, unhealthy food that the retailers try to kill us with in those so called 'burger vans', how much?? Was watching one guy last year, the queue was massive yet what he was doing with his hands (bare) then getting handfulls of bacon out of a non-refridgerated van and putting on the grill was something for the Health and Safety Executive..... Sick isn't the word.

Come on DES we all know GB not perfect but there are a lot worse places to be. Where else could you go to stand around for hours in wet, cold, windy and thoroughly miserable weather and have such a good time with the most freindly bunch of people you are ever likly to meet!

Guys, there is absolutely no point of fighting about ticket prices. We live in a material world where (like it or not) nothing comes free.

I am a big time world rally fan (just like most of you) and I have been watching rallies in the last 15 years (bear in mind that I am only 26). I enjoy all kinds of events from snow to gravel to mud and tarmac.

I believe each event has its own-wild and unique beauty. I like Acropolis rally for its twisty and full of dust roads. Cyprus for nearly the same reason. San remo for its unexpected ending (did u watch last night? Panizzi nearly did it-if there was one more stage to go). In the last 5 years I have the opportunity to watch Rally GB and I am quite happy with what I see.

So don't fight, because there is no reason.

That is all from me, and I hope we all enjoy our 4 day weekend in the welsh mountains. C U in the forests.

Its the first rally i will have been to.My ticket was £32.50 which i think is a disgusting amount to pay to stand in a forest all day.But i cant wait.See you all there.

I'm with you Janacorn, it's just the way it is...

...and T2000PPP I hope you feel after the rally it was worth it coz it's sooooo much more than just standing in a forest...IT's GREAT. Went to my first GB rally coz it was free and been hooked ever since (and paid!), hope you will b 2.
