I'm visiting the Rally from Canada . I'm getting an Event Pass. Do I need to rent a car to get to the stages?? If I stay at a bnb in Cardiff , is there any transport to the stages ?? If I get a car , I might sleep in it to get a good spot . Will I need to take food , or are there places to get a butty or something at the car parks ?? What are the chances of cadging a lift to the stages if I'm by myself ?? I want to see as much rallying as I can .
Sorry for all the questions..
Thanks

Hi Alan
You'll definitely need a car to get to the stages, there isn't any transport laid on and the stages are spread out over a large part of south Wales. There'll be lots of people sleeping in their cars overnight so you won't be alone but I hasten to add, not me, I like my home comforts too much and the thought of waking up in a cramped, freezing cold, damp car makes me feel quite ill :D Oh and you won't get too much sleep 'cos of the partying and fireworks going on all night ;)
There are catering vans out on the stages selling bacon butties, burgers, chips, tea and coffee etc etc (when will they realise that veggies go rallying too???) but the majority of people I see sleeping overnight seem to take their own cooking equipment.
There may be people on here who will be happy for you to get a ride with them but it all depends where you'll be staying I suppose :)
Hope this helps

Yes you will definately need wheels unless you can get a lift off someone else. The forest stages are miles apart and there's no organised transport (other than to the SuperSpecial).
My recommendation would be that if you're renting then get a 4x4 (my preference) or a small van thats got enough space in the back to stretch out and sleep. Speaking from personal experience it's MUCH easier getting to the early morning stages if you travel there the night before and sleep in the car/van at the stage. Plus there's a great atmosphere in the forests at night.
However if you do decide to do this, the conditions can often be described as 'harsh' and you'll need to come equipped for the outdoors.

I`d rent a car if i were you, when you get to Cardiff, go along to Rally HQ, there will be loads of Genuine Rally Fans there who know the score when it comes to watching the Rally, I`m sure they will be only too pleased for you to tag along with them...
Have Fun!!!

Biggles, email me - I'm coming from San Francisco, and have got a shedload of maps, last year's program, mileage charts etc. I do SCCA rallies here in the US, so getting organized around a rally is second nature to me.

great to see people coming from far and wide - could agree more with the 'get a car' comments. Let me know if you need some numbers to do this as i live in cardiff

Strange Mr C McRae just asked the same question about next year's event!
