View Full Version : Car parking stickers?
Iwan 22 September 2003, 14:31 Maybe a stupid question, maybe not.
I have the event pass 1 which came with 3 large A5 stickers for the 3 days car parks. Do i have to stick them in the front windscreen or can i stick them in the back window? Do the marshalls care?
The only problem i can forsee is not getting waved strait in to car parks (as they can't see them from a distance) and having to stop in each entrance while the marshalls walk round the back to check them.
Any thoughts? I don't have any side windows in the back of my Land Rover and the windscreen or rear door are the only options.
scoff 22 September 2003, 15:31 without being rude...... i suppose you can stick them where you want.....
At least they are smaller than last years.....
i would stick it in the top left corner of your winscreen, so it is out of the way.
Lise 22 September 2003, 16:41 Don't stick 'em on your side window (you can't no side windows - must read more carefully!!!) like my mate did on my car last year because they end up in a wrinkled mess if you have to put the window down!!! They are a right game to get off too, I'm considering heli-taping mine so I can get it off at the end of the day (as we have 3).
Any tips on removal greatly received...

Iwan 23 September 2003, 08:02 Thats the problem there are 3 stickers this year, they will take up nearly half the windscreen! My passenger/navigator won't be able to see out!
Request to the organisers for next year, can we have a tax disk sized parking sticker for each day? Please??
:-)
Lise 23 September 2003, 09:17 I second that Iwan!
zetec14 23 September 2003, 11:52 I brought this up on the day of the rally last year (when I finnial got my tickets) I stuck them on the side windows and had no problem with them getting stuck and I intend on doing the same this year.
The police make a hudge profit over rally weekend from speeding tickets and parking tickets so I think this year they may be wanted to make more money by kicking up a fuss over the car parking stickers.
ex-webby 23 September 2003, 13:42 Hi,
a) the car park stickers are easier to remove this year
b) from a safety point of view, we would not recommend putting all three (they are A5 in size) on your windscreen at once as it will block your view!! The recommended way is to stick on the windscreen the one they will need that day, and then replace it the next morning with the next one etc etc
Regards.
Iwan 23 September 2003, 14:16 I guess thats what we'll have to do then. I just hope they'll stick on condensation!
Seriously, what would be really nice would be something tax disk sized that wouldn't obscure your visibility. It would be good if it could be peeled off without being damaged so you can keep it as a souvenier afterwards, but i guess that would encourage people to pinch them out of cars...
Lise 23 September 2003, 15:23 Sure they're easier to remove than last years they're half the size! (Sorry, will reserve judgement)
Iwan, sounds like you're driving and so am I so I reckon "car park passes - stick and peel" should be nominated a passenger / navigator job.
M J B 23 September 2003, 17:25 Last year people did put them on the side windows but is it worth the hassle when they are meant on the front! As for putting one on at a time you need to have all 3 on so all the one dayers can spot the hardcore fans lol! On a serious note are they really going to stick to the wet window after night 1?
harrierchris 23 September 2003, 19:01 ... I'm thinking of trying to blagg entry to CPQ as we were there last year and that bit where the cars go over a tight hairpin over a little bridge is awesome!!
Well excited now!

hotchy 23 September 2003, 19:03 What we do,as the same as last year is we laminate then in the machine(if you have access). This then makes them easy to remove for driving. No messing around.
You just pop in above your clocks when entering the stage then shove it back in glove box- jobs a good-en.
I would not fix them directly to your screen,it may invalidate your insurance/ be prosicuted for obstucting your line of vision if you had an accident! Would it pass an MOT in the window- I think Not
scoobyfella 24 September 2003, 00:30 MJB,
Don't you have aheater in your car mate to dry the windscreen, should only take a few minutes hardly the end of the world;)
james.
scoff 24 September 2003, 08:02 damn......
i never thought of that......
i have a friday pass
a saturday pass
and a sunday stage pass
3 passes.... if i only show the one on the day people will think i am a one dayer....lol
Iwan 24 September 2003, 08:30 Exactly, you wouldn't want to look like 'just another one-dayer' would you!
Apparently there is something called a "heater" in my ex-army Land Rover - i'll have to see whether it's powerful enough to dry a steamed up or dripping wet window after night 1.
Iwan 24 September 2003, 08:35 Lise (and anyone else on here with Event/WRC passes),
Nearer the start of the rally, how about setting up a thread where we exchange details of who's going and in what vehicles? That way we can actually figure out who's who, and look out for each other in the forest car parks.
janacorn 24 September 2003, 09:15 WEBMASTER loved hotchy's idea of laminating car park passes, the mess last year trying to get them off was unreal.(I know you said they will be easier this year but they feel pretty sticky to me).
Would laminating invalidate them?
janacorn 24 September 2003, 09:17 PS I am a three dayer just in case anyone thinks otherwise!!!!!
Scoobychick 24 September 2003, 10:08 Last year I put my car park stickers in A4 size clear plastic file pockets and stuck them on the inside of the windscreen with two strips of scotch tape which came off cleanly leaving no sticky residue :)
Lise 24 September 2003, 12:18 I reckon the amount of mud on your car will give you away as a full three-dayer!
Like the idea of swapping details and seeing if we can spot eachother!
hotchy 24 September 2003, 13:48 You will have no trouble spotting my TANK.
Just look for a Range Rover that should be in a scrap yard, covered in silly rally things...
more likly to have a curry on the go,Chicken tikka masala at 3am with pineapple brezzers-nice
Bring back 5 days- the cars are now second, the Crack is First!
Trugga 24 September 2003, 21:10 How about some graphic person putting together an image like the one below, so that forum members can identify each other.
Now, I'm no artist, so I'm sure someone can do better than this. You should get 3 to an A4 sheet, laminate them (or cover in sticky tape or clear sticky backed plastic to protect from condensation) and stick 'em in the rear and side windows.

M J B 24 September 2003, 21:22 P.S. Trugga, that pic is spot on!

hotchy 24 September 2003, 23:10 Thats Top Shelf,
I will have one thanks- and laminate it.
Love kipping in the car..... minus 12 degrees in Hamsterly forrest in 93, condensation froze to the roof and kept dripping on us all day as it defrosted.
scoobyfella 25 September 2003, 00:46 MJB,
Plenty of times mate watching the rally GB (lombard RAC rally/NetworkQ rally) in a Opel Kadett, orion 1.6 ghia i, Nova Gsi, Peugout 405 MI16, is that enough details;) you didn't think i was a first timer did you mate?;)
James.
scoobyfella 25 September 2003, 00:50 MJB,
i'm also a hardcore four dayer with an event pass, so look forward to meeting you mate. What scooby should i keep my eye out for mine is MY00 DBM with prodrive rear spoiler, gold wolfrace alloys, MRO front lip and a few other mods.
It would be great to meet up with folks off here to swap bacon sarnies and cups of tea with.
James.
Lise 25 September 2003, 10:19 Going off to make myself one of those car stickers right now. It'll be stuck on a little gold Toyota Yaris......not too many of those is the car parks!
Iwan 25 September 2003, 10:45 Ditto, I'll start putting one together for my vehicle too. It'll be stuck on an ex-army 110 Land Rover, the bottom half of it is camoflaged with a cream roof and a grey back door - unless i get round to respraying it all-green before the rally (unlikely!).
CLIO MAN 25 September 2003, 12:27 Trugga, Quality Idea.
I'll be making a few stickers. Look out for my two-tone brown and black clio.
I'm sure my nan will make some welsh cakes for us to share. lol
