Thanks again chaps for a blinding weekend at the Ring. Myself and Harj arrived very early after a 3hr 20min run from Calais in the M5... Needless to say we werent hanging about. We got a few laps in whilst waiting for everyone else to arrive, as expected the M5 did nothing but impress clocking a few fast laps. Friday night was the usual meal in the Lindenhof followed by a Session in Sabines. We asked Sabine if she would drive the M5 the following day, to my surpise she agreed as long as it has good brakes and plenty of petrol as she had already heard there was a Kellerman M5 at the ring !! Saturday night continued as usual with a certain someone passing out outside Sabines after they had wrecked the toilet !!! Had to laugh when I found out they had been sending text msgs from the toilet saying 'help me'....
Saturday started early with a few good early laps. Owain and Richard hired a Seat Leon 1.6 which they proceded to strip down until it sounded like Owains rally car !!!
At lunchtime Doc Jock called to say Sabine was looking for us, myself Harj and MRK couldnt believe it so headed to the car park quickly !
Harj asked Sabine if 3 could sit in the back and she replied there is only 10 air bags, not one for the middle seat in the back ! So we took that as a 'no'. I jumped in the back with MRK and Harj up front then noticed Sabines friend so graciously gave up my seat (well she was blonde and worked in the bar !!). I waited for the car to return and swopped seats with Harj, MRK swopped with Doc Jock and we set off like naughty school boys nervous with anticipation !! Within 30 seconds we knew she was the Ring Queen, her relaxed stance was upset only by the short shift that she wasnt used to and the fact the gearstick was on the worng side, she asked me whether I would shift for her ! I wasnt sure if she was serious so just smiled politely !!! We were held up by the immense traffic and the suicidal motorcylists but 145mph into the FoxHole was very impressive and the 4 wheel drifts around other cars were superb, only an Evo overtook us, unfortunately he misjudged the whole overtake almost wiping out a bike causing him to take to the grass and shower us with loose dirt, Sabine in her way just screamed at the near miss then casually said 'idiot' ! The rest of the lap was perfect with Sabine waving at the crowds around Showboat whilst controlling the car with a finger !!! Her lines at time seemed odd but managed to teach us better entries and exits for many corners. The end came far too soon with Sabine saying the M5 was faster than hers and had better brakes but it was more prone to understeer than oversteer which slowed her down in some corners. This was beacuse of the uprated rollbars, an issue Harj is sorting this week with a full Kellerman suspension kit.
MRK then did a few laps and to be honest was not far off Sabines pace, I guess being a semi proffessional racing driver helps ! He was disapointed only hitting 138 through the FoxHole !! We didnt time the lap but did set the average speed, he managed 80mph with heavy traffic and one incident that slowed us down, anyone fancy working out the lap time given the speed, im sure Owain who was in the back will agree it was a fast lap.
Then back in the pits Sabine came over and asked Harj for another go, of course Harj agreed and we all jumped in with Tony Quinn in the back for another go, again she was just amazing, her control of such a heavy car was nothing short of superb.
The day went so quick it was time for myself and Harj to head to Amsterdam, on the way I opened the M5 up a few times to find the car doing 160 before I knew it (so much for the limiter) ! I now want an M car !!!! Amsterdam was entertaining as usual meeting a few interesting people, next time more of you should come with us, it took 2hrs 20mins from the Ring.... We left the Dam at 12pm and I was home at 6pm.. Thanks to all especially Harj for yet another blinder roll on next time hopefully in the M5. Good to meet some new Ringers..
