View Full Version : So Citroen plump for Sainz over McRae... BuRR 13 September 2003, 21:42 ....does this mean he will be without a drive for next season? http://rally.racing-live.com/en/headlines/news/detail/030912205246.shtml kwispel 16 September 2003, 15:31 Stupid regulations indeed !! I don't see what the problem was with the old rules. OK, it makes sure the wealthy teams cannot buy all the top drivers. But what the hell ? Ford has clearly shown that you don't need to have high salaries on your payroll to win ! Also think the "game" played in Australia by Citroen faking they still needed to choose between Sainz and McRae was as stupid. In my opinion, they had already chosen Sainz well before. On the limit, he is maybe hair slower than McRae, but: - he is very very regular and is the perfect complement to Loeb (Loeb going all or nothing whereas Sainz always brings home some points). - he's the Schumacher of rallying for developing a car, - and he's the perfect team mate: he will just drive his own race. McRae might me tempted in competing with Loeb. I still cannot understand why Peugeot had to sign Rovanpera, who only brought home a very lucky 2-nd spot in Cyprus (after all the others retired) whereas they knew there would probably be a moment where they could just have their pick among some VERY big guys with the new rules. The more flamboyant McRae might have fitted well next to the cool Gronholm. Maybe Gronholm preferred some weaker competition from a fellow Finn ? neiltbag 16 September 2003, 18:32 McRae was informed that he wouldn't be signed again on August 20th. BuRR 17 September 2003, 09:31 Apparently, there's talk that he might go alone? Or, try another motorsport. funkydunk 17 September 2003, 20:49 guess citroen cant afford to spend out on the new cars cos of crasher |
