Sunday 9th Sept. - Arran - Impreza wagon driving with the Alfa Romeo bunch
Not me but general question about Arran. I'm off there next weekend - is it worth taking a car over i.e. are there any decent roads?
Also do you know how much it is to take a motor over?
Cheers.

Hi father_jack,
Yes - definately take the car!
The main road circles the island and is about 60 miles in total. There are other roads, but I'd suggest you stick to the main one.
It's not a place for banzi driving - too dangerous - far too many hikers and cyclists around, but it's very twisty and still good fun at relatively low speeds.
Expect a few glares if you've got a loud exhaust.

The ferry is about £8 per person plus £45 per car for return tickets.
It would be a good idea to book in advance so as to guarantee a place.
Lochranza in the north is certainly worth visiting.
The distillery there is new (about 6 years old), has a good visitors centre (if you like that sort of thing) and has a decent restaurant serving good food.
Enjoy!

Visited Arran yesterday (great place)
Stopped at Lochranza for lunch and the distillery tour.
About 15 or so Alfa Romeo's arrived in the car park when we were there.
With them was one Scoob!
Was it you?

LOL!
I didn't mean you had to drink the distillery!
- be careful driving - seriously, lots of other people on the road, usually just around a tight blind bend and loads of places where things will turn nasty if you over-cook it! (Sorry if I sound like a kill-joy - I would have liked to go faster myself, but IMHO too risky.)
Have fun though, hope the weather is good to you...
