does this happen when you empty the batroom sink?

Sounds like a wierd problem, you should never get water IN the overflow, if it were coming up the plug hole then it would be more straight froward, but thats just wierd!!

I have come across a few houses where the toilet overflow is connected into the back of the bath overflow to show when the toilet is overflowing rather than taking the overflow pipe outside.

Constantly flowing.

Mog, think that you may have cracked it :) Did not have time to look last night but that is the only thing that would make sense to me.

If thats what you think it is, try flushing the loo, it should stop while the cistern fills up!

This has happened to me - the ballcock had come of the arm thing thats connected to the valve and so the cistern was constantly overflowing into the bath.

It took me ages to work out why the cistern always had lots of condensation on it and why the bath continued to make water-draining, gurgling type noises !

A bit of fiddling with the workings inside the cistern soon sorted it out

Good luck !
