Hello,

I may have to leave my car in a not nice area for a couple of days :(. I have Clifford Concept security, but want to further disable the car. What connectors etc under the bonnet are good to remove/disconnect to prevent the car from starting? Disconnecting the crank sensor stops the engine from starting I believe. Anyone got a pic of its location? Any other DIY tips on further hampering the efforts of scumbag car thieves?

somebody a while back suggested replacing fuel pump fuse with a blown fuse ?
Mix leads about ?
Book it into Subaru for an annoying / tempramental leak and leave a courtesy car there instead ?

Unfortunately no choice about taking motor. I have to take it for various reasons. I just want to disable it as much as possible on top of the Clifford security. What leads can I mess about with?

Take the ECU with you - 5 min job to remove and should fox em until they turn up with a tow truck :D

if you mod your car so you can easily unplug the ECU, wont that cause it to 'forget' its current learned AFR for the fuel you're running on? I.E. cause an ECU reset?

found the following from a previous post....

- disconnect crank position sensor
- disconnect starter motor solenoid wire
- remove fuel pump relay or fuse
- lift offside rear seat & unplug the connector there for fuel pump
- remove coil pack, hide it in the house

Any one of these would work. Most effective would probably be crank sensor and/or removing fuel pump relay.

Removing the steering wheel is not that difficult, probably better is to use a disklok.

The crank sensor is an easy one to do, open the bonnet and just below the alternator is (on my MY98) a brown connector which is the crank sensor, squeeze the lug down and disconnect it, should be easy.

If you are that worried why not find a local prestige dealer (Subaru/BMW/Mercedes) and see if they will store your car for a fee for a day or two in their locked yard. They will probably say no but who knows....

Just take the ECU, simple to do and they ain't going to have a spare to plug in are they ?

A lot af car thieves carry spare ecus around with them now because this is becoming a common way to disable cars ;)

stick a police aware sticker on it and put the word out that its a plant by the local feds to snare baddies:D

Let a tyre down but dont forget to take a foot pump with you to keep indoors ;)

Well considering most Scooby ECU's change from year to year they're going to have to carry a good selection around with them :)

In as far as I know, this is not so. Yes, the calibration, diagnistics etc. change, but the basic ECU interface hasn't been altered significantly. If you want to steal a Turbo 2000 / WRX (i.e. not a car with VVT like the STi). One for <MY00 and one for >MY01 should do it. Big dog is a good plan.

if u still have the standard sigma alarm u can key in a code that totally immobilises the car even if someone tries using the keyfob and keys

this however woulnt stop any1 sticking it on a lowloader, u then need to rely on your tracker, if fitted!!!
