dr_ming 01 September 2003, 16:29 Anyone know if there are any aftermarket (pref 10/12 disc) CD autochangers compatible with the standard MY03 WRX head unit? I don't really want to pay through the nose for a Subaru 6 disc unit. Thanks.
chiark 01 September 2003, 16:31 Any kenwood unit will do - 6 or 10 disc.
dr_ming 01 September 2003, 16:35 Chiark,
Does this mean that the standard head unit is made by Kenwood? If so, would I be correct in assuming it will use a direct cable connection, and the changer can be controlled by buttons on the head unit (no extra control box required)?
Cheers, Derek.
chiark 01 September 2003, 16:55 yup, the standard unit is made by kenwood. They have no shame, they even put their name on the bottom of it ;)
You're right: all you do is push the src button (or cd button, or whatever it is - mine was only in for a week ;) before it was replaced) then you control it as you would the Subaru changer. The subaru changer is just rebadged and overpriced IMHO :D
Chungster 01 September 2003, 20:02 Chiark,
Is there a connector for the Changer already there in the boot, as in pre-wired??
Or does a cable need to be run from boot to HU?
A friend has found me the Kenwood KDC-C465 changer (as supplied by your dealer) for £89 brand new!!! Just need to buy the mounting bracket and cabling I guess.

chiark 02 September 2003, 10:10 You need the cable, and you need to run the cable. It'll take ten minutes - just take the rear seat base out (2 bolts), a bit of trim down the side (poppers) and you're away :D
You can get changers cheaper than that online IIRC...
dr_ming 02 September 2003, 13:35 According to my local Subaru dealer, the 6 disc changer will also fit under the passenger seat. Dunno about the 10 disc one though.
jmk 02 September 2003, 19:41 Bought an MP3 headunit so I've no need for my Kenwood 10 disk changer. Make me an offer and it's yours.
dr_ming 04 September 2003, 13:44 JMK,
Sent a couple of messages to your profie e-mail address. Did you get them?
Cheers, Derek.
Gary C 04 September 2003, 16:08 I want to fit my kenwood changer to my STi8 but does anyone know how to get the center trim pannel off so I can get to the back of the radio.
It looks as if it pulls off, but I dont want to break it. Anyone help :)
chiark 04 September 2003, 17:34 See the FAQ - it's all in there.

the cable to connect the changer to the head unit normally cost about £50, but havin said that if u buy a brand spanker it should come complete with bracketts and cable..
