Hi All,

Just about to finish off our garden (laying some lawn this week). Before we cleared it, we had 32 trees (hawthorn and plum) and on average had 10 - 15 bird nests each year.

I'm a bit skint after all the stuff we have bought for the garden these past few months (turf, trees, gravel, building materials etc.), but like having the birds in the garden so would like to convince them to return this autumn / next year. No problems with material as I have a garage full of wood plus off cuts.

So my plan is to build some bird boxes, a bird table and some bird feeders. However, I'm not sure where to start. Anybody know of any plans online for these kind of things ? Traditional style, none of the half-timbered, mock Tudor trash. :D

OK, I could probably work some of this out by myself, but getting sizes right etc. I could do with help.

Cheers

Ian

I've got a book somewhere with plans for quite a few different boxes for different makes & models of birds.

I'll have a trawl about tomorrow & see if i can find it, then i can see what i can do about geting some details to you.

John.

Hi John,

Thanks for the offer, but no longer need it. Found the same type of book up in that old fashioned place called a library ;) :D

I did find a few plans on the 'net but most were a bit weak on detail. However, this book has lots of good designs and is written by the RSPB so should be OK.

Thanks again though.

Cheers

Ian

The RSPB web site is useful too. I joined the RSPB too, and they send you various info about helping the little feathered friends throughout the year.

For feeders - best to spend a bit more on getting squirrel-proof ones... I didn't to start off with, and after a month, the bar steward squirrels had ruined them, in their quest for food!
