B&Q appear to be flogging off their "Pro" 1250W routers. Cased, with a few bits extra, for £25 !!!!!!!!!!!!!! which is wayyy down from about 80quid+

There was a huge pile of 'em in Leeds yesterday.

Cheers,

nick.
Edited to remove the confusion :D on price! They're 25 quid!

They are not bad bits of kit TBH, my neighbour has one - You get a fair few bits with it in a large case - if its the same kit. I don't know if the bits are up to much - theres loads of professional quality bits on ebay - do a search for Trend.

mj.... off to B&Q for a cheap router :D

Well, we (chiark, david wallis and I) built my staircase using one of these, and using only the bits that came in the kit. Worth every penny IMO, and that was when it was £80!

I have seen a drill attatchment. It turns your drill into a router, these any good?

Cliff,
I wouldn't have thought so - not unless your drill runs at 25,000 RPM.

...compared to forking out 25 quid for a proper, fixed base router? Absolutely useless in comparison. Look at the cost of the bits, plus the "plunge" stand, plus ... and it'll add up and be less effective than the proper thing IMHO.

NB: not on comission, don't own Kingfisher/B&Q shares, just want to see someone else get a bargain :D

On a serious note, Chiark should not be allowed anywhere near one of these;):p

The link says £80 - I thought they were down from £80 ish....£55 maybe?

mj, the sticker said "CLEARANCE" then "was 79.99, now 54.99" then that was scribbled out and another price was on it that I couldn't read, then finally in big 'koff letters was "£25".

They scanned on the till at 79.99 and took a manual price correction.

There was a huge pile of 'em (well, 20 or so), all with the same clearance price. (Turn left as you go into leeds, then behind the returns counter is the "bargain" section, opposite the tool corral)

Cheers,
Nick.

PS - I was expecting a comment like that Steven ;) : I'm slightly amazed that it took you so long :D

chiark,

hang on, I have misread your post - are you saying the routers are only £25? - if so that is mega cheap.

I would offer to do buy them for people, but postage will be an issue as these are pretty heavy!

I was tempted to buy a couple and try my hand on ebay ;)

chiark - which B&Q was the offer on at - the warehouse or the killingbeck depot?

chiark
27 August 2003, 12:52
The warehouse, just off the M621 and ringroad (A6120)

mj

I phoned em' - they knew nothing about it :( - maybe I spoke to a cabbage that wasn't aware of the offer ? The only thing they knew of was the 1020 watt job for £30.
