View Full Version : Cheap routers at B&Q
chiark 27 August 2003, 08:31 B&Q appear to be flogging off their "Pro" 1250W routers. Cased, with a few bits extra, for £25 !!!!!!!!!!!!!! which is wayyy down from about 80quid+
There was a huge pile of 'em in Leeds yesterday.
Cheers,
nick.
Edited to remove the confusion :D on price! They're 25 quid!

cliff_vtr 27 August 2003, 09:55 routers look top tools thing is i got no space to use one
chiark 27 August 2003, 10:33 fantastic things - used one to help P20SPD build his staircase... I think it took a little punishment :D
They are not bad bits of kit TBH, my neighbour has one - You get a fair few bits with it in a large case - if its the same kit. I don't know if the bits are up to much - theres loads of professional quality bits on ebay - do a search for Trend.
mj.... off to B&Q for a cheap router :D
P20SPD 27 August 2003, 11:07 Well, we (chiark, david wallis and I) built my staircase using one of these, and using only the bits that came in the kit. Worth every penny IMO, and that was when it was £80!
cliff_vtr 27 August 2003, 11:14 I have seen a drill attatchment. It turns your drill into a router, these any good?
Cliff
Cliff,
I wouldn't have thought so - not unless your drill runs at 25,000 RPM.
chiark 27 August 2003, 11:25 ...compared to forking out 25 quid for a proper, fixed base router? Absolutely useless in comparison. Look at the cost of the bits, plus the "plunge" stand, plus ... and it'll add up and be less effective than the proper thing IMHO.
chiark 27 August 2003, 11:27 More info HERE (http://www.diy.com/bq/product/product.jhtml?PRODID=87417&CATID=159246)
NB: not on comission, don't own Kingfisher/B&Q shares, just want to see someone else get a bargain :D
P20SPD 27 August 2003, 11:30 On a serious note, Chiark should not be allowed anywhere near one of these;):p
The link says £80 - I thought they were down from £80 ish....£55 maybe?
chiark 27 August 2003, 11:54 mj, the sticker said "CLEARANCE" then "was 79.99, now 54.99" then that was scribbled out and another price was on it that I couldn't read, then finally in big 'koff letters was "£25".
They scanned on the till at 79.99 and took a manual price correction.
There was a huge pile of 'em (well, 20 or so), all with the same clearance price. (Turn left as you go into leeds, then behind the returns counter is the "bargain" section, opposite the tool corral)
Cheers,
Nick.
PS - I was expecting a comment like that Steven ;) : I'm slightly amazed that it took you so long :D
I will have a blimp in the stockport B&Q later -
cheers,
Mike.
bugger - just rung em' - the offer is not on in stockport :(
cliff_vtr 27 August 2003, 12:12 25k rpm ummmmm NO my drill doesn't spin that fast.
Why do routers need to spin so fast ?
CLiff
chiark,
hang on, I have misread your post - are you saying the routers are only £25? - if so that is mega cheap.
cliff_vtr 27 August 2003, 12:13 looks mint off to B&Q warehouse now
Cliff
cliff_vtr 27 August 2003, 12:14 £25 for the router, 15bits and a case is a steal !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
F**K it i might just buy it for the hell of it
Cliff
cliff - the offer is not on in all branches.
cliff_vtr 27 August 2003, 12:18 only one way to find out :-)
Cliff
cliff_vtr 27 August 2003, 12:19 if they are on at my B&Q I'll buy a batch and then sell them for on here for £30 :)
Cliff
chiark 27 August 2003, 12:26 I would offer to do buy them for people, but postage will be an issue as these are pretty heavy!
I was tempted to buy a couple and try my hand on ebay ;)
chiark - which B&Q was the offer on at - the warehouse or the killingbeck depot?
chiark 27 August 2003, 12:52 The warehouse, just off the M621 and ringroad (A6120)
I phoned em' - they knew nothing about it :( - maybe I spoke to a cabbage that wasn't aware of the offer ? The only thing they knew of was the 1020 watt job for £30.
chiark 27 August 2003, 13:01 If you're coming over to Leeds in the future, do you want me to pick one up for you today?
chiark-
Thanks for the the kind offer, I have a mate in leeds that is pooping in later today.
oh, and the ebay thing - good idea
chiark 27 August 2003, 13:37 pooping in? Very 'allo 'allo ;)
Just been up to get another one for Mr Wallis. There's about 10 left :)
Cheers,
Nick.
David_Wallis 27 August 2003, 13:39 :D
David
cliff_vtr 27 August 2003, 14:34 back and they are 80quid still. They look a top bit of kit though
