Mog I wounder if you could advise me pretty please ;)

We are fitting a Loo downstairs we have a standard soil pipe sticking out of the floor that goes under the footings into the main sewer what I need to know is we have no stink pipe going into the loft can I connect the loo and the sink straight into to the soil pipe with out the need of the riser into the loft if you get what I mean.

We have a durgo that we brought before we sacked the builders if it's required but not sure.

The council man will not pass the extension until the loo is finished but I dont know if I need this Riser with the durgo on top in the loft to keep the council man happy or can I get away without?

Thanks Huxley

Hi..first thing to check is that your branch off the main sewer which serves your existing bathroom is ventilated normally eg. up through the house etc and above the roof. Your additional toilet can then be ventilated through the durgo valve, which needs to be situated at least 600mm above the top edge of the wc pan (flood level). It is sometimes possible to not have the durgo but depends on the building control officer and also the effect of water running past the wc's branch connection and drawing the seal out of the pan. Hope this helps.

Thanks Mog

The main waste in the house has a stink pipe up through the house and the new soil pipe out to the main sewer goes straight into the manhole"opps person heole :D:D" on its own branch the only other thing in line is the waste from the hand basin int the loo
so by the sounds of it i better go for the safer option and put the stink pipe up into the loft and put the durgo on top.

Off to B&Q then me thinks

Huxley..you can avoid running a soil pipe up through the loft as I said previously though perhaps not too clearly by just making sure the durgo is at least 600mm above the pan, most people just box in the pipe from floor to ceiling in the cloakroom with the durgo at the top.

:( I have a hole in the celing all ready  thats where the water feeds come in so i'll stick it in the loft out the way.
