View Full Version : Garage Project
Puff The Magic Wagon! 08 May 2005, 23:01 Bollox to that - I am knackered
Cut out all the plasterboard for the sockets + where necessary did that in the brickwork.
Then I painted.
And painted.
And painted.
When the sun came out, I wore sunglasses against snow blindness  but when it rained, I snuck back inside the garage & shut the doors on myself
It's all but finished construction-wise. Got some finishing off on things like doors and hardware & such, plus the plastering to do. That & the tidying up ;)
Then it's only the painting & getting the wiring completed...
:D
any more pic's to post :D ,
:ponder2:
Ahmmmm !!!!
Update ?
Puff The Magic Wagon! 28 May 2005, 23:43 Sorry lasses/lads (in order of preference :D ) but I've not taken any photos recently...
The building is finished & I have spent the last 3 week-ends clearing up the yard & sorting out the surroundings. Want to get pics of "the finished item" or near as.
One of the reasons as well is the hinges to the doors 'cos they came in galvanised & we want them black. Its a bit of a time consuming process to take them off, rub, prime, rub, hammerite, rub & hammerite again then refit. Also means that the doors are yet to be finished off paint wise.
Still to do is
Finish painting doors
Finish painting hinges
Finish painting boards round the edge of roof.
Start to paint underneath them
Finish wiring d/stairs sockets
Finish wiring u/stairs sockets
Wire u/stairs lights
Paint stair area & u/stairs
Though I have
Re-graveled yard (shift gravel from top to bottom)
Moved all plastic covered items into garage
Moved 1000+ bricks from yard to back
Moved 200+ concrete blocks from yard to back
Prepared area around oil tank & planted some shrubs
Hidden said tank behind trellis
etc etc
I am off next week, so will be doing quite a bit more work :D
We are very chuffed with the building & with the quality of work. Upstairs will be a really useful room when finished. We already have in mind "extending" it to incorporate a loo/showerroom downstairs but that won't be for a year or two.
I'll get some pics taken & up over the w/end.
class_A 19 June 2005, 17:28 Bump for update :D
Puff The Magic Wagon! 25 July 2005, 22:08 Firstly apologies for no updates recently :(
Electricity was connected today :D :D :D
It is suitably light downstairs now - just need a coat or 2 of white emulsion ;)
I've been mega busy @ work & also wanted to make some progress on the garage front, namely getting the doors all painted to start with! So, I'll bring you up to speed with what it looks like now & whats going on...

All the holes now have electric sockets btw & lights fitted in the ceiling and uplighters along the sides.
Downstairs inside garage - where fusebox now is

Couple of pics of the outside - note doors still being painted then! Pain was painting all the galvanised hinges as they didn't come in black

I've been also clearing up the yard, shifting bricks and moving all the stuff that was stored outside, into the garage. This left a bit of a desolate area around the oil tank/gas cylinders so I've tied it up, dug it over, lobbed a bit of trellis to hide the tank/cylinders & planted a few shrubs

As seen from the side recently when things are growing in the veg patch - lovely spuds :D

Round the back theres a wood-shed being constructed - more soon ;)
Puff The Magic Wagon! 25 July 2005, 22:18 Still to do?
Paint the inside upstairs.
Paint the inside downstairs
Finish off the security/alarm (eh Hux? ;) )
Finish off wiring for servers
Some more painting of doors & eves still to do...
Workbench :D
At least I can now wash car, dry it & then take it inside for a good polishing
Puff,
did no-one tell you it's a garage, whats all that plaster about??
Not that i'm envious obvioulsy!! Looks lovely mate!
David_Wallis 28 July 2005, 11:01 whats the upstairs going to be??
Puff The Magic Wagon! 28 July 2005, 21:06 whats the upstairs going to be??
At the moment, its going to be a sort of officey place. I'll be putting my servers etc up there, leaving just a PC in my study in the house. Otherwise it'll be for storage though the wife is possibly going to use it to work in - she wfh 1 or 2 days a week.
Long term the idea is to put a small "porch" where the side door is but make is big enough to have a loo/basin/shower and use the upstairs as a self-contaned spare room - we only have 3 bed hs.
I'm sure I'll be spending a few nights there anyhow
David_Wallis 28 July 2005, 22:56 Would make a nice home cinema, boys room, workshop, office.

Workshop downstairs of course - just need a project car ;)

I can't even afford a house as big as your garage! Maybe I could rent it - with my scooby parked below?
Anyway, looks mint. I'd be thinking boys room / Home cinema too.
David_Wallis 29 July 2005, 20:15 nah.. garage downstairs.. workshop upstairs!
Puff The Magic Wagon! 02 October 2005, 23:07 Well, not quite finished but now have an adjoining woodshed :D
Round the back, dug 2 deep holes about 7 ft out from the back wall, fixed in concrete two 4x4" posts and then added a frame attached to the wall & posts to support a roof - 3 sheets of 8x4' chipboard. Just need to felt it and job done :D
Got plenty of pallets from the bricks used for the garage to act as flooring (lets air circulate) but just need to cut the logs up
Pics when finished
:)

scoobygav555 22 February 2006, 23:59 Great thread, any more recent pics???
Gav..:)
Puff The Magic Wagon! 25 February 2006, 20:25 No but I'll try and go take some
I've not done much more inside other than move junk around and put a primer coat on the inside plasterwork. I've used nearly all the wood up in the fire but I've yet to put a retaining wall up against the bank. Actually better cut some of the big logs remaining and split a few before I run out.
Main current project recently has been fencing elsewhere, which is still a bit to finish and the hedge to dig in - try and get some photos of that too.

Puff The Magic Wagon! 26 February 2006, 00:30 Yeah & that... ;)
:D
Puff The Magic Wagon! 26 February 2006, 21:36 OK - took a few general outside pics includint the woodshed.

The woodshed

Got to dig away that last piece of earth then dig down some footings to make a retaining wall out of breeze blocks (of which I must have 200 lurking behind the wooden shed!) but its one of those tasks I need to get around to...
This is the fence. Just dug 45 odd holes for the hedging plants. Intention is to dig them in, then chickenwire the rest of the bank to stop the bunnies digging holes
I got the plants in and the 1/2 the chickenwire done before the light went - more pix when finished.

scoobypreza 09 March 2006, 11:53 Lovely looking garage!!
When we moved to our house the big attraction for me was the 8m wide and 5m long garage behind it.
Not in the best shape but will hopefully be knocking down and rebuilding it in a couple of years.
Hopefully going to get planning to have similar design to yours, roof etc. With the possibility of having a self contained flat above as there is about another 4m of land behind so we are going to try and buy it.
Would give me an external size of 8m wide and 10m long!!
Just wish I had a lovely spot like you've got!!
Dave
Rex93 09 March 2006, 19:15 very nice garage indeed:cool:
Looks like youve got a slate slipped on the back already?
Puff The Magic Wagon! 10 March 2006, 11:38 very nice garage indeed:cool:

Yes - well spotted! It's split in half just under the crest of the roof. Going to get the builder to sort it.
spider 10 March 2006, 17:20 Very, very nice Puff. :thumb:
Were the roof trusses bespoke, or were they an "off the shelf" item? We're thinking of doing something very similar so it would be nice to be able to specify an existing product.
Cheers,
Steve
