Has anyone tried the DLS 'Pro Slimline' component speakers (models PS4, PS5 and PS6)?
They have a low profile to fit modern vehicles. I am going to find out actual mounting depths, to see if they fit my MY03 RS.

Just had a look at the DLS web site.
The DLS PS5 (5.25") needs an installation depth of 45mm (1.77")and a mounting hole of 117mm (4.6").
Can anyone tell me at a rough guess whether these would fit without spacers or hacking at the door grill?

I'm looking to upgrade the front speakers on my MY99 and would like to know which speakers are going to be too deep. I've seen lots of posts on here about what does and what doesn't fit but I have yet to see anyone come out and say exactly what depth is available.

Someone must have measured the depth available. Ideally I'd like to know what the maximum depth speaker I can fit without using a spacer is. And the same if I do use a spacer.

My shortlist consists of the following speakers:

depth speaker
=======================================
76 mm DLS R6A
70 mm Crystal CSC60S
62 mm Rainbow SLC265.03 Sound Line

Anyone know for sure if any of those will or will not fit ?

I ended up putting 12mm MDF on the front of the original pod, with a bit of hacking...

That was for CDTAudio HD62s... Depth is slightly over 70mm... Will check the exact depth if I can find it.

Cheers Chiark,

So the Crystal and the Rainbow will both probably fit okay. And the DLS might fit if I use an 18 mm spacer.

And any speaker much deeper than about 58 mm will probably need a spacer to get it to fit. How big a spacer can you use before the speaker starts fouling the inside of the door card ? Is 18 mm pushing it too much ?

Typical isn't it - the DLS is the cheapest of the 3 but also the one most likely to not actually fit :(

Bear in mind this was 12mm on top of the original mounting... And that just fitted without any issues of cone hitting the card. I wouldn't go any bigger tho.

The CDTAudios need approximately 72mm of clearance from the rear of the basket.

Bear in mind this was 12mm on top of the original mounting

So the DLS are definitely out of the question then. The Crystals should just fit and the Rainbows should be a piece of cake...
