right got 2 built in wardrobes with no doors, thats how it was when we bought it.

here are the inside measurements of both

1st wardrobe 24inches wide 48inches tall
2nd wardrobe 24inches wide 75inches tall

now coz of space i can't have a conventinal door so was looking at a A-type sliding door, like a bi-fold but on a slider. This means you use 2 half width doors per cupboard.

The problem is the heights of both cupboards seem to be non standard. Even if I cut abit off the bottom and top of the nearest sized door they are still too big. The doors I am looking at are louvred and have 2 louvred panels per door. So I could chop them in half and cut abit out the middle part between the panels and cut abit off the top/bottom but then i would somehow have to join the 2bits together in a neat way. I feel it will end up a big mess. Can I get custom doors from somewhere or does someone do sizes closer to my requirements ??

PLEASE HELP

Louvre doors, didnt know people still wanted them!!!

if you want to go for another type of door why dont you use MDF,cut the MDF to the correct size, fit piano hinge down the middle to let your doors double hinge and plant some nice pine or mahogany mouldings on the doors to give the effect of panels, paint them and away you go.

Just a thought because louvre doors are always a nightmare to paint.

cheers, I talked to my dad and he suggested the same thing but using plywood, what do you reckon, ply is more rigid, say 18mm thick stuff. Yeah those mouldings are a good idea cheers, they will make it look nice.

problem sorted

so MDF or ply ??

was also thinking of ditiching the slider and going for conventinal openers as it will fit. If i use piano hinge do you need to rebate it in coz its so thin ?.

Also what about the easyfit hinges ?

MDF its far easier to dress up the edges and you dont see the layers of ply on the edge.

Kitchen door type blum hinges are great if you wish but i would still use piano hinge for the centre cos you dont even need to rebate it.

Good luck.

gone for conventinal doors now ditched the slider and gone for a pair of doors per opening. Got 18mm mdf cut from B&Q and put on some of those stick on panels. Also put some beading strip on one door so that once closed it covers any gap between the two and finshes off. Got some nice brushed ally knobs too. Put the panels on and drill knob holes and stuck on beading. Gonna give them a quick sand tonight then prime them and gloss them.

Already looks good, Just hope the 50mm easy-fix hinges hold the weight of the MDF. Gonna use 3 hinges per door.
