View Full Version : I Think I'm Doing Too Much DIY...
...was visiting a customer site and went to the loo. Stood there having a pee, and suddenly realised I was checking out their plumbing and thinking "Ohhh, good move, they've got an isolating valve in"!!
spider 14 August 2003, 13:18 LMFAO Iain!
I'd be careful about admitting to 'checking out someone's plumbing in a loo' - just think what happened to George Michael!!
Maybe you should have your own isolating valve installed and then you won't need the loo so much?!
Cheers,
Steve
Oh, and yes, you are doing too much DIY! :D
LOL @ Steve! :D:D Trust you to think of it that way! :p
cliff_vtr 14 August 2003, 16:41 its perfectly normal i do that. Was round my gf mates and came back from the toilet and said "I like your toilet"

Scott W 14 August 2003, 17:14 We're doing the same and we've not even built ours yet! We keep looking at new builds and slagging of the workmanship a treat. God help the people who build ours!!:D
Not long finished building my new house, all I ever seem to do is be amazed at what work some people will actually put up with and pay good money for, lets face it, plumbing ain't rocket science, so why not do a neat job??
Goes for all aspects of the build though, and another thing, why don't tradesmen EVER clean up???
Ron.
Ron..plumbing can be rocket science when we humble plumbers have to deal with DIY cock ups which are normally hidden away behind the decoration of the house and only cloud the issue when trying to fault find some problem. And yes I/we always clean up afterwards much to the amusment of my customers.

As for standing in a loo and checking out the plumbing it's second nature.
Mog,
there are obviously exceptions, anyway, I didn't mean plumbers, I did ALL that myself, with only a corgi man to fit the boiler, we have underfloor heating up and down, kitchen, utility, and two bathrooms, and I didn't have one single leak, and the water authority bod was well happy! I even laid the MDPE pipe to the road, through a duct under the house!
The clearing up remark was pointed to the brickies, (something I didn't do!!) they never cleared up at all, and as for roffers, they'll quite happily walk around on a foot thick pile of tile chippings, on scaffolding, alongside a road where loads of people walk, I guess we shouldn't have paid them til they cleared up, still, that was 16 months ago, and now it's liveable!!!! and, worth about 350k! and it only cost me 120k, with the land!
I didn't say I culd spel!
 I'm not (totally) weird then.... ;)
It still makes me laugh when I think of it. I mean, four weeks ago and I wouldn't have had a clue.
Ron, that sounds like some impressive work. I think I saw some pics in another thread, but I think you should post some more and a bit about your experiences.
cliff_vtr 15 August 2003, 10:23 i think it all depends on who does the work, example
my mate had sky installed and the guy butchered it about, the dish wasn't straight and the screw in wonky etc etc. So I was abit worried when our installer came. But the guy did a great job, very neat no mess and very quick, couldn't fault it.
I think it all depends on whether the person take pride in their work.

V5, yes mate, I might do that, if I could find somewhere to host a whole bunch of pics, and it be easy for an incompetant pc user to link them, it could turn into a whopper of a thread though!!!!

LMFAO - funniest thing I've read for ages :p :D:D:D:D
john_s 17 August 2003, 16:11 I agree with the comment about brickies not clearing up... i think it's because they get used to having a labourer to do everything for them. They'd even have the labourer setting the bricks for them if they could.
