View Full Version : mk1 golf gti conversion
c2scoops2 11 August 2003, 23:54 been thinking about this for a while .i have a mk1 gti sitting in a garage and would love it to blow my 93 wrx away do you think it would be possible to get a justy and cut the floor out and weld a mk1 onto it?(i think the 4 wheel drive system is the same as an impreza)could be wrong though.have put a wrx bonnet next to a mk1 bonnet and there isnt a lot of diferance in size so you never know about the engine (the can fit a vr6 in one )just dreaming or do you think this would be possible?
thanks in advance for any input

ustolemyname??stevieturbo 12 August 2003, 01:05 Im thinking someone has been drinking, based on their thinking...
Subaru Justy the same drivetrain as Impreza???
Because the Golf bonnet is a similar size, the engine might swap???
paulpalmer 12 August 2003, 12:31 lol :D
pugoetru 12 August 2003, 18:36 and i thought i was mad :D
could get very cramped
c2scoops2 12 August 2003, 23:24 when i ment the same drivetrain i thought that all subaru 4x4 were based on the same principal.its pretty much common sence that the engine wouldnt fit as it is (thats one thing i am missing common sence) i just thought that an impreza engine could be mated to a justy and all the things exept the engine could be put in the car (battery, water bottle, power steering etc) or just put the engine in the back.it may be the smoke but all ideas have to start somewere.suppose i could just be boring and go along the lines of a 2ltr 20v turbo but just love the impreza engine.sorry for being a dreamer.

Gareth Allan 15 August 2003, 07:58 if you want a 4x4 mk1 golf turbo, mate the syncro drivetrain from rallye golf or similar, with the VAG 1.8 Turbo engine.
This has been done before, hardest part is modifying the floorpan, engine swap is quite straight forward.

Andrew Dixon 26 August 2003, 17:43 Take a look at this month's issue of Performance VW magazine. It features Ben Leach's Mk1 Golf. He started with a bone-stock Mk1 Golf CL, and has fitted the running gear from a Golf Rallye (4x4 Syncro stuff) and a 1.8 litre 20v turbo engine from a Mk4 Golf GTI.
Car looks completely stock, but runs 300+ bhp, 0-60 in 4.4s and 12.5s 1/4 miles! Might be for sale too?

DO IT!
Never seen a scooby MK1, seen VR6's, G60's G40's, 20V... & even V8!
Do it & I'll buy it when you get bored. I even have the base car...!!!
