not sure if i understand properly but the way i see it is that if i have 6 years NCB and i have an accident then my NCB drops to 4 years.

where as if i had protection it would not drop. However, the no claims protection on the policy is over 100 quid extra, but the extra would only be 40 quid if i had 4 years NCB.

Is this right? Do you think Protection is worth it?

Let's say that you're currently paying £500 for your insurance at full 65% discount. That means that the cost of the policy before discount is actually £1429. If you make a claim then you drop back to 40% discount and that same insurance then costs you £857 the next year, followed by £714 the next year and £571 the next year.

So for the 3 years following a claim you have paid an extra £642 (357 + 214 + 71). Paying an extra £100 a year starts to look quite reasonable now I think, especially if your insurance is more than £500 to start with...

If your paying high premiums always have it. You mentioned one claim, what if your unlucky enough to have two!

Also just one other point - All NCD scales vary but if you have 6 years now and don't protect most insurers will drop you to two years. There are a few exceptions but that is the normal rule of thumb

I am so glad I protected mine this year.

Two days into starting my policy my car was hit by a lorry while I was parked by my house. The driver did not stop so had to claim for it.

Two weeks ago, a daft woman forgot what a mirror was for and opened her door as i was driving past (you can imagine what happened next). It now turns out that this woman has no insurance (still awaiting Liverpool Victoria to actually confirm this)

If I did not have protected bonus then I would have had to sell my car as my insurance would have been almost £2800!!!!!!!!!!!
