View Full Version : 1/4 mile organised.....(legal)
kungfu 28 July 2003, 12:44 Right fellas, i've been in touch with Brian Finnegan from Bishopscourt racetrack. They are holding a big event down there this weekend...2/3 Aug, show cars, transit van racing, rally cross, go-karts etc... He said he would be interestd in organising some sort of drag strip day, but would need to be sure of numbers.
Could we get a list of who would be genuinely interested, to see if we could gat the ball rolling.
200+Bhp 28 July 2003, 13:54 kungfu, any more info on times etc. of what is on over the weekend sounds good, will the cossie be making an appearance ? :)
ustolemyname??stevieturbo 28 July 2003, 16:52 You can count 2 cars in on my side for a 1/4 mile...Not this weekend though. Will there be racing for money ??:D:D
This is on condition that it isnt full of plonkers. Performance cars only, as watching a 900cc corsa plodding up a track just wouldnt interest me, and if i was queuing behind one to race, I would only fall asleep.

kungfu 28 July 2003, 18:57 That's my thoughts too...i think it should be;
- normal aspirated class (only 2litre cars upwards)
- turbo section : 1.3 turbo class ie renault5 turbo's, starlet turbo's etc... : 2.0 turbo class ie scoobies, cossies, evo's etc
: whatever else is turbo'd above this
John Semple would know better, as he has been to santa pod. Firstly we need to know numbers, and the date hasn't been organised yet.
The event this weekend is advertised in the autotrader, i'm taking the cossie to show, and then for a fast lap of the circuit (it's ony £5)....and i'll be taking it to the 1/4 mile, thats why i want to get something organised soon!

BigTurbo 28 July 2003, 18:59 who stole my turbo stevie...quote: "This is on condition that it isnt full of plonkers. Performance cars only, as watching a 900cc corsa plodding up a track just wouldnt interest me, and if i was queuing behind one to race, I would only fall asleep."
did you every stop to think that some people might think you are a plonker yourself...every thread of yours i read is always moaning about something  or running somebody or something down
what exactally do you drive a 1000bhp impreza with nitrous or something...cause it must be extra special seeing as you can condem everything else on the road :D
ustolemyname??stevieturbo 28 July 2003, 20:07 Well, I do like a good moan it seems. Maybe I am a plonker, if I am, I dont care. No I dont drive a 1000bhp impreza, I dont even own an Impreza. Is my car special??? Well, I think it is a bit. Its not brilliant, but it does pretty much what I want it to...It doesnt have 1000bhp, but perhaps in a year or two, it will be close.
As for Nitrous...been there done that, waste of time for the road in my opinion, though it does have its uses for drag racing....until it runs out.
Pehaps I am also critical of a lot of other peoples care when I shouldnt be, but I guess its just the way I am. Given that I really do enjoy cars, I should praise more often. But there really is some sh1t out there.
I have been to various trackdays here, and while they have been quite good fun, have usually also been very annoying due to other cars there. ie. slow twin cams continuosly getting in peoples way, by spinning off etc, and their general bad driving, and yet the organisers then freak when you overtake someone, and threaten to stop you from using the track, even if they have been badly holding you up, and wont move over.. Following behind someone slow on a track is very very boring.... for these reasons it has been quite while since I attended a trackday.
I have also been to Santa Pod on a few occasions, and when its busy, with lots of bikes and various cars, you pay your money, and basically get hardly any runs ( perhaps queues of 45 mins or more at times ) Its something that cant be helped, but it does spoil it for everyone. Other than that, Santa Pod is excellent, good track, good setup. If you do get a few runs then it is very enjoyable.
If the setup here is open to all comers, then you will get people who are only interested in messing about. A quick look around the car parks some nights will tell you that. Also, reports from Jon44w about people breaking into St Angelos to race shows the intelligence of some people around.
You dont want these people anywhere near the thing.
A no alcohol policy would be good also.
SO, i think I just had another good moan there.:D:D
kungfu 28 July 2003, 22:16 so what were the 2 cars you were for bringing then, and what do you drive?
bigsinky 28 July 2003, 22:32 TOTBII..........hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm c ya :D
KIPPER57 28 July 2003, 22:34 help...what is TOTB2???????????
LoL @ kungfu...i noticed too..lol
KIPPER57 28 July 2003, 22:35 oopps sorry...lol @ big turbo
ustolemyname??stevieturbo 29 July 2003, 01:19 The 2 cars I refer to that would attend are one of mine, and a friends.
I have a few cars...mostly at the minute I am driving an automatic volvo diesel estate. Its an amazing car really...:D
As for others, I have a mini, legacy turbo estate, an old granada, and my volvo. I dont really get to drive them very often though, as I cant afford to. But I wouldnt sell them either. Book prices would be very low anyway, and nowhere near what it would cost to replace them.
Most arent worth very much in some ways, and many would consider them pretty lame cars. I dont brag about them being fantastic, I am quite aware that they can be quite sh1t. However, most of them ( volvo excluded ) are also a lot faster than most peoples cars. Im not into flash cars really ( cant afford them really, and most just arent worth the asking prices IMO ), im into power, performance. They may not always handle very well with the power, but its good fun.
As for TOTB2 (http://www.trackdayplus.com) just click
The 2 cars I mentioned at the start will be competing.
My Ford Granada, and mates Subaru Legacy.
bigsinky 29 July 2003, 03:04 not really a ford granada though is it stevie?:D surprised many and unwary punter i'll best. fcuk it surprised me!! only looks like a granada.

jon44w 29 July 2003, 07:21 Santa Pod are forever changing their setup but they are currently running with this.......
Class 1) Up to 1500cc
Class 2) Over 1500cc
Class 3) Up to 1500cc Turbo and/or Nitrous
Class 4) Over 1500cc Turbo and/or Nitrous
Class 5) All 4x4`s
Class 6) Road illegal
You would have no problem filling the venue but no matter what you do you wont keep out the 1 litre wonders unless you actually block them from the front gate. I dont think this should be done as it will create a better atmosphere and bigger crowd if everyone gets in. Kung Fu I have emailed you my number if you need any help getting the word about etc etc.
kungfu 29 July 2003, 19:21 I think i had your number anyway John. Brian is to get back to me about sat/sun this weekend, and i'll have a word with him then...if not i'll see him face to face on sunday about getting something organised. Although i have only a couple of responses so far from this site!
I just got TOTB video, fook me...some real fit motors, we don't have quick cars over here at all!!
jon44w 30 July 2003, 00:10 Is he aware people broke into Bishopcourts on Sunday night past there to drag race? No damage was done but its just a point.
ustolemyname??stevieturbo 30 July 2003, 01:48 And there's gona be some even faster cars this year at TOTB2
Hopefully we can put up a bit of a show, against the mega-expensive machinery there.
Last year, my car was running like a pile of sh1te, but managed 16th overall in RWD class. This year it should be different, as it is running a lot better.
Michael did better, still 16th overall in 4wd class, but his was the 2nd fastest Subaru, beaten only at the end by Mark Aigins Impreza, which was having problems that day.
So not too bad I guess, considering that most of the cars above us were big HP Skylines, Supras, Vipers, Cossies, Evos etc., of which quite a few were also using 'road legal' racing tyres, and they certainly werent carrying 3 peoples luggage either.
I think we can do a lot better this year, although the competition has got a lot better too, so who knows.....
Going to try anyway :D

ustolemyname??stevieturbo 25 August 2003, 01:44 It seems there is a little bit of racing going on. Not quite legal, and it was def longer than 1/4mile, but still good fun.
Now all thats needed is a challenge...:D:D
Anyone want to put a few £££ up to race???
