Hi all,

prowd owner of 1997 ZX6R which needs a little front end work, don't want to pay Kawasaki because I can do it myself, just don't know what fork oil weight to use, or how deep to fill the fork legs, can anyone tell me??

thanks in advance,

Ask the dealer what amounts each fork leg take, and the weight?

As for filling, I've not done this myself in years but it used to be a case of unscrewing the top and pouring the correct amount in?

For the sake of a bit of dealer labour surely its safer to let them do it if your not sure? Maybe remove the forks yourself and take them to the dealer, thereby saving the cost of them removing them etc.

If you have to ask this question are you sure you can do it yourself?

The front end is pretty important to the stability and safty of the bike.

I only want to know what weight, and how much oil to put in my forks, if the answer is "I have no idea" then don't write anything!! I will call Kawasaki, I just thought I would bug you lot first!!!

You may flame me for this, but buy the Haynes manual, all specs are in there.

:o)

funnily enough I did actually think the info may be in the manual. I was merely trying to get some quick and easy information.

Besides I have it now, so thanks to everyone for all your help!

Don't forget to tell the guy by the side of the road with a flat tyre that he can buy a new tyre at any major tyre stockists!!

I thank you!

Well, ask a question without revealing the facts behind it and people are bound to make assumptions, narkypants. ;)

Why didn't you save yourself the aggro and just get a haynes in the first place if your so smart?

I am not smart, and the whole history behind it all is that I would like to be able to fix my bike tonight because I need it tomorrow to take a fit lass out for a turn, and I would prefer to do it on "not-blown" fork seals!! I am working today so can't get to the shops to buy the manual so hence I threw the question to you lot!

That's it! The answer I needed, for the record, is 10w Fork Oil and 381ml per leg + or - 1ml, or, with stantion compressed fully and spring removed 150mm depth to the top of the fork oil.

That was the answer I was looking for not "buy the manual" or any other such unhelpful advice.

As a driver and rider, please see this thread as exactly what the drivers mean when they say "biker attitude". On the scooby board if I had asked the volume the gearbox takes of oil or something then I would have been delivered the correct answer in seconds !!
