J4MES 27 July 2003, 15:59 Yeah, went down for a squizz. Got attacked by flies, got wet, got shot at by the Army! Not a brilliant entry but ti was a fairly good day out. Managed to see SS1 Monument, SS2 Crychan, SS3 Route 60, SS4 Halfway, drove down to my favourite corner in Halfway but they weren't using it but we walked into the stage to where you can see them across the other side of the valley. Then went down to the stage start to have a mooch and chat to a few people. Then back to SS3 to see people from our club who were running towards the back of the field. Then we went to service then to the second running of Crychan then the final Monument stage. Tricky conditions but Barry Johnson was well on it all day. Mad Mick Jones was great value for money as ever as was his son. The 1400's were commited as ever, especially Ian Evans in the Ignis, fully lit all the way out of the bottom of the valley at the hairpin in Monument, to the flying finish. Awesome. Not sure of the reason he retired but as they didn't fit the new and untried engine, with Hayabusa throttle bodies, until the early hours on the Saturday, it isn't surprising he didn't finish! navigator 27 July 2003, 17:01 with you on the wet. I didnt get attacked by insects so that was a releif. We got visits fron the paras, 2 ghurka's who got thier land rover stuck and an officer who said "how do i get to my lads.. down this track?" errh no thats a live stage!!!! johnston was good, brian bell is getting quicker but really doesnt use all that power. 1400's were good....never thought i'd say that. Some of them were so committed..well done those guys. Ah the old mark 2's were good, loads of sideways out the hairpins. rallying like it used to be. |
