Sick of traffic jams, i m thinking of doing a direst access course and a bike.

Fancy a 600cc supersports and the R6 sounds great but, is it "too much" for a first bike, and if not are there better bikes as rivals to the R6.

I wouldn't want anything bigger, seems 600cc is the best all round compromise to me.

thanks in advance

Adrian

600 is good enuf and still lots of fun for long distance riding. but if you are only gonna ride in town, how about considering a 180cc scooter ;)

If you are doing some longer distance stuff I would head for a faired bike not one of the usual naked starter bikes. But I went for a Honda VFR800 as it is just as quick as the 600 sports and more stable and wont bite back. It is heavier though than the 600s and so harder to handle at slow speed especially as a new rider. Try a few b4 you buy though.

If your just after a town bike the big scooter idea is probably better.

However once your on two wheels you'll want a proper bike anyway, so I suggest the CBR600 rather than the R6. The R6 is a little bit too focussed imho, especially for a newbie, no offence. ;)

Just try them all out and see what feels best to sit on, they are all damn good machines really. I have a ZX6 and love it :D

Agree with Barry, R6 is to harsh for town/first bike.
Cbr6 all the way ( not the RR )

Go for it mate, sold my scooby and doing my direct access course and have just got a brand new GSXR600..

First proper bike, just have to take it easy till ya get the hang of it.. I like the R6's but everyone I've spoken to reckoned the gixxer or a ninja are better..

CBR600?? forget it!!!!

the R6 and GSXR seating position is too "radical". an ideal first bike would be the cbr600. you cant go wrong with it. it's a breeze around town and a flyer on the open roads.

but the best is to test ride it. only you know best.

Going to go against the grain here - my first bike was an R6. And I loved every second of it! Never bothered me being "too focused  I did 16k in two years, rode it in the rain, snow  and to France and back... I am almost 6 ft tall and if I was to get another 600cc bike, I'd be straight back on an R6. You don't get a 600cc sportsbike to be comfy. Get a Goldwing if you want to be comfy  You'll be too busy grining anyway!

They are the dogs :D The most reliable (and fun) vehicle I have ever owned. Fine in town as well!

So there!

I ride a CBR600RR into London everyday with no problems at all and I know a few guys who commute on R6's and R1's.
Buy what you want to buy, it's your money at the end of the day, but take it easy at first......good luck;)

Kingsize - fancy you poppin up here!;)

I had a GSXR6 as my first bike. Loved every second on it - lightweight so a doddle around town, reasonably comfortable for cross europe blasts to foreign GP's and of course, the piece de resistance, scratching!:D Nothing quite like a 600 for balls out fun (just build up your limits slowly!).

With regard to big scooters check out the weight of some of those things - bloody monstrous IMO (besides you'll look a right tool dressed in a 1-piece riding a Suzuki Burgmann;))

Try a Honda VTR Firestorm too as they are the same insurance group as the 600`s & easier to ride IMO. You don`t have to go dancing up & down the gearbox when you want to go fast (ask any R6 owner ;) ) as the torque is loads more & lower down the revs than a 600. I had a CBR 600FW & swapped for a Triumph Daytona 955i & the difference was immense, just open the throttle & GO! :D :D .

hi i have a cbr600f sport for sale if u are interested..... its a cracker...i brought it new 3yrs ago.

crash mushrooms
2 exhausts...one for road and one for erm track..
i altered the rear to get rid of the tow bar rear light.
5k on the clock, dry miles and always garaged.
honda imobiliser, spy ball alarm.

if u saw it and sat on it u would love it as much as i do.

there are 4 of us that used to go out and we each had the top 4 600s and we have swaped many a time and i still prefer the cbr.

i have loads of pics if u want a look and alpinestar leathers and boots that may fit u?

any of them are good..but this is a bargain at £4,400.00

let the tarmac for ever be sticky!

I think really that all of the new 600 race bikes are all fine tools. The GSX and the R6 are balls out - much of a muchness - but if you're willing to have to change down gears to get into the simply ferocious power band, and don't mind being a little less comfortable than you would be on a bigger bike, they are great :D

The new CBR also looks like a great bike and probably easier to ride, and almost just as fast. A well ridden CBR would certainly give a poorly ridden GSX and R6 a hard time. The ZX6 I know nothing about, but again, am sure it's a fine tool.

Drumsterphil; you get about a bit :D Am hopefully picking up an R1 for a week at the end of the month - mmm, wheel up possibilities abound  Great day last Wednesday!!

Hello

used to sell bikes. 600cc class very competitive and is all about
how much ££££ or a personal choice which will change with everyones
different outlook/experience.

Gixer are cheap. R6 cheap finance deals about zx6rr very focused
cbr600rr not quite so but best risidule values(probably)

you pays your money and take your choice you will not be disapointed by any of the bikes and the throttle goes both ways
