Cheers Neil! :D I'll be sending some more over shortly! ;):)

Well, that's it - we're in! :D The whole moving experience wasn't have as bad as I thought it would be. Again, thanks Neil and Sandie. :)

We can't quite believe how much stuff has come out of our one bed flat - the three bed house is full!! You'll laugh when I sort out the pics!

Iain <-- Homeowner!

Edit - D'oh! I meant to say thanks everyone for the interest, encouragement and advice! :)

Well, we completed on our first house yesterday and got the chance to go in and take some pictures. If you have a sensitive disposition, I'd suggest skipping the pics!! We knew it was dirty when we viewed, but to see the floor in all it's glory  it was quite shocking! How do people live like this?

You're lucky this isn't in smell-o-vision! ;) Both the previous occupants smoked, and had three cats which would appear to have done whatever, wherever!!

We are in the fortunate position of being able to do the work before moving in! :) We're fitting a new kitchen, having new flooring throughout, and re-decorating. Obviously, the first step will be to give it a thorough clean!!

The right hand house is ours, but the Volvo isn't!

OMG!! How disgusting is that???

http://images.fotopic.net/?id=807614&outx=760&oq=0
Think we'll replace the carpet! ;)

http://images.fotopic.net/?id=807615&outx=760&oq=0
The fireplace is coming out!! :D

Second bedroom. To the right of shot there's a handy recess for wardrobes.

There's a usefully sized recess to the left of the door.

There's a shower cubilcle and basin to the left. Spotlessly clean, obviously! ;)

There will be more pictures here (http://www.iainsphotos.fotopic.net/show_collection.php?id=31774). And, more to the point, there'll be plenty of questions!! ;):D:D

Whilst mine wasn't quite that dirty, you can quickly see how lazy the previous occupier was.

Went to use the gril the day after I got the keys. Looked under the tray to find two or three months of congealed fat. :spew:

We went through every kitchen cupboard with a Brillo pad and they changed colour.

He had the nerve to tell me when I got the keys off him that 'they'd given everywhere a good clean'. Yeah right

Lazy as well. The handle on the patio doors was loose. Thirty seconds of effort with a screwdriver fixed that.

Ah well, no wonder I knocked him down on the price :D

Good luck Iain (& Mx_Tart)!

OMG  that is disgusting :( It should be very nice when you have done it and I guess it won't take that much work.

Cheers Chris! :D

Not suprisingly the house had been on the market for months, but we managed to see thru the grime to the potential. :D It did mean we got it for £18k off the asking price!! :D:D

I know what you mean about the kitchen and not wanting to touch it! We justified the cost of a new kitchen by offsetting it against the time and effort cleaning the existing one! ;) Getting new carpets/flooring was a no-brainer! :)

I've got the next two weeks off, and Neil has taken a week off to help with the kitchen http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/images/icons/icon14.gif :D When we turn up at AT and fall asleep, you'll know why! ;)

Iain looks good. http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/images/icons/icon14.gif

However, I think you should call in those women from the Channel 4 cleaning show and get them to do all the hard work for you! ;):D

As for the fitting of the new kitchen - boy do I hope you and Neil have the patience!

Scott - that had crossed my mind, but strange tho it might sound, I don't think the house is quite dirty enough for that show!

That is tidy compared to the one we now live in. It was an absolute sh1thole when we bough it! Had to fumigate the bloody thing:eek:

You'll have to do that when you leave Iain :p

That's clean compared to our place when we moved in!
The silly cow that lived here before blocked every single vent in the house apart from the bathroom.
All cooking grease etc was drawn into the bathroom, we thought we had peach tiles until we cleaned one and the peach turned brown and ran down the wall revealing white tiles.
The carpets were all rotten, with all sorts of creepy crawlies living in them, the back room had a huge damp problem (all missed by the surveyor)
I don't understand how people can live like that

*Cough* - oh dear, boss has revoked my leave - can't help now ;) :p

Was a bit smelly ;) But won't take a lot to turn it round, just a bit of effort.

Bit of Shake & Vac and a wipe with a damp cloth and we're laughing :D

Now, as for fitting kitchens, I hope you know the difference betweem a screwdriver, hammer and drill?

Is this where I mention the £10 per hour hazard exposure charge?

:D

The boss is offering a can of Carlsberg an hour!

My caveat is that you can't have them until we've finished - otherwise it could all get a bit wonky! ;)

Congrats mate.

From what I can see of the the garden, there is some potential there. Our place was (and still is) a bomb site. Slowly doing things bit by bit. Saying that at least it clean :D

 it certainly will keep them amused.

The garden can be quite nice. Theres a patio area at the end with a brick built barby behind the shed. Power in the shed so will be able to have garden lighting, and its a nice little area for evening drinkies, barby parties etc. :D My mum is well an truely a Ground Forcer so she'll have the garden licked into shape in no time :D

Yay for having a green-fingered mother in law!! :D Can't stand gardening, mesel! :D

I should really have taken a shot of the garden from the ground, but never mind, eh?!

As SJ said, once it's tidied and we install some artful lighting, it'll be top-smart! :D

You mean you aren't keeping whats there? ;)

when we moved in the previous owner had dogs and cats, and kept them in the bedroom wardrobe YUK!!!. my gf got the keys at 3pm and started cleaning. I joined her after I finished work and hired out a carpet cleaner and cleaned all the carpets. By 11pm we had all the carpets cleaned and managed to get about 10buckets of black water and about a tonn of dog/cat hair.

Anyway the previous owner had left us a bed seatee as our bed wasn't being delivered for a few days. So at 11pm I open up the bed seatee and the smell that came off it actually make me wretch and I nearly spewed. We had a house of wet carpets and nowhere to sleep so we put bin liners on the floor and slept there. worst nights sleep ever!!!.

She also left her greese ridden cooker, a disgusting freezer and a tumble dryer which was full of cat litter. All this went down the local tip.

Where the CAT/DOG has scratched away at the walls/doors has made decorating a long job!!!!.

So I sympathise with you, looks like yours was worse. Anyway abit of hard work and time will sort it

Ewww, Cliff! Not nice! I don't think we'd have embarked on this if we'd had to move in!!

Well, so far the house is gutted - only the bathroom left at the mo! We have also made a good start on building the kitchen, and my mother in law has done a grand job in the garden. :D

Pics to follow as soon as they're uploaded and approved!

V5: looks like you have your work cut out. But its all part of the fun doing the work and turning a hole into a palace.

I like the new beech units, very modern. Thats what I want is beech with those stainless steel bar stylee handles looks lush.

We have one of our kitchen units with a set of 4 drawers but the drawers actually face into the dining area so I am replacing the drawers which look like 70s lash ups with some that i am making myself. Gonna be using some nice beech wood dye. Gonna put on those nice bar handles will look the nads

keep those pics coming
