Hi,

Posted this on the Gixxer BBS but not got many meaningful replies ....

My little brother has just got himself an old Slingshot - GSXR750M from 1991. After trying to set the suspension for him (his previous bike had twin rear shocks with preload only so damping and
preload back and front was an alien concept!!) I came to the conclusion that his rear rebound adjustment was set to max. no matter what the adjuster setting said.

Someone on the Gixxer site and someone said that, as it had been
sitting in a garage for 3 years, it may have leaked all the nitorgen from the shock. The question is, how likely is this and does a lack of nitorgen in the shock manifest itself as rebound damping set to max...??? (The shock has a seperate reservoir ala Blade).

Also, if it's buggered and it turns out to be rebuildable (don't know yet ..) does anyone have any suggestions for where to get this done?

Oh, and does anyone know if this bike had a steering damper as standard? I think yes. But we removed the one that was on there (big improvement - for the better and no adverse effects) and it still didn't solve the underlying problem.

All replies appreciated.

Cheers

Dave

Yes the nitrogen leaks, but not sure of the effect on damping, tbh, although adjusters can seize hich leaves you merrily twiddling the knob/screw and bugger all happening. Give someone like Maxton a call for advice (although they'll no doubt recommend that you let them rebuild it ;) )

Ta! Maxton, they say, 'nitrogen no leaked out or bog all damping. They can rebuild BUT if anything is buggered, like seals, they cannot get them from Suzuki .....' ..

Cheers
