View Full Version : where can I buy driving lights ? markwild 01 July 2003, 20:20 TSL's don't go on a 98 Very easily .... Scoobysport do Cibies, anywhere else do lights e.g. PIAA s ? Mark alcazar 02 July 2003, 16:36 For the ultimate, try Scoobysport's HID ones. I've NEVER seen any better, and that includes 4 x 100W Cibie Super Oscars on a rally Escort! Yes, they're dear, but....................:D: They use Hella 1000FF units, but a different mounting to those on the Prodrive kit, more secure, no vibration, no setting up etc. After that come their Cibie kit, and the PIAA ones sold by Scoob dealers, if still available. WHATEVER you get, budget for some covers, clear, to protect the lenses. Scoobysport for Hella/Cibie, OE Scoob foglight covers turned through 180 degrees for PIAA. Alcazar markwild 02 July 2003, 19:18 what about these cibie SCs from scoobymania (http://www.scoobymania.com/exterior_info.asp?c=1) Dont think my budget stretches to HIDs .... And I'm ordering ScoobyDoo grill type covers.... Mark alcazar 03 July 2003, 10:36 They look Ok, but watch out for lights with high powered bulbs using the "H2" fitting. There have been reliability probs in the past, with the heat from the bulb causing bluing of the holder, this in turn causes a bad connection, which leads to arcing, and premature bulb failure. Alcazar markwild 03 July 2003, 11:54 The main reason for going for these is the clear lens - My 98 has the frosted type and the laters look nicer (IMHO).... MArk alcazar 03 July 2003, 16:36 Oooops! I think you may be confused here. The early frosted type lens on the '98 cars were FOG lights, and the clear ones on '99 onwards cars are also Foglights. Are you intending buying some of the clear foglights, or some actual DRIVING lights? Foglights are, IMHO a total waste of space, time, and money, and I don't know why so many manufacturers insist on fitting them. A good set of driving lights on a Scoob, are, on the other hand, a very good way to spend some of your hard earned. Alcazar markwild 03 July 2003, 18:00 Don't worry ! I'm not confused at all.... I intend to replace the frosted fogs on my car with some decent driving lights... However, I'm simply saying that the clear lens 'look' appeals to me more... Does that make sense ? Mark Dougster 03 July 2003, 18:07 I have cibie oscars that use 130w Ring bulbs. Excellent when working but as said b4, bulbs have blown prematurely. Any advice on prolonging bulb life? alcazar 03 July 2003, 21:12 Scoobysport do that kit, and IMMSMC, they also did modified bulbholders. Give them a ring and ask, they are always helpful. Markwild: aaah, now I understand:): Alcazar PS: the HID Hella 1000FF's are COMPLETELY clear:D: |
