Considering changing the ECU in our version II Impreza. Currently running a Prodrive Gp N Ecu but wonder about the benefits or downside to a MoTeC or a Gems or anything else for that matter.
Anybody have experience or thoughts and cost is always a factor!

Ta for some help

Gems or Motec is the way to go,proper anti-lag,more torque, different programmes for different fuels, but be prepared for less mechanical sympathy to shafts ,box ,etc

I'd agree with Rallycol, the problem is each system has pros and cons, and I wouldn't profess to be an expert on either. That having been said we have run a couple of GpN Scoobys in the recent past and left both of them on standard Prodrive ECUs. The V5 running Gems and the V6 on Pectel. The logic being that as they weren't as harsh on the car as Motec or mappable Gems and hence we got sensible Kms out of all the transmission bits and the turbo. Putting harsher anti-lag on for instance just crucifies the turbo life for a start. Thus it depends on what you want to achieve - a bit more grunt/responsiveness or reliability/life. I would suggest having a chat to the likes of Martin at Autosportif, Steve at Townend or Ian at Bill Gwynnes to sound them out. They all know their stuff and am sure would happily spend some time to talk through the issues with you and what you want out of the car. The only other point, and its debatable, is the effect it might have on the cars history. Assuming you have a Prodrive built car, then that in itself is attractive to lot of buyers, thus by moving away from standard Prodrive kit can detract a little from its 'provenance' when selling it. I don't necesarily mean price by this but it can lose you the buyer. That having been said you could always keep the old one and refit it at the time of sale. Not much help from a technical perspective I know but trust the names and thoughts help. Good luck and happy shopping.
